oswego classic purse cut?

i saw on another open wheel site there are rumors circulating that the classic 200 @ oswego for supermodifieds will undergo a $20,000 purse cut this labor day weekend. does anyone know anything about this?

Nothing on the Pinner's forum. Oswego has changed the policy about bringing in food and drinks so everyone is upset about that.

Vuckie, Look closer it is a reality, As far as the other situation seems as though they want to shake down the fans at the gate......I realize things change but there still in the service industry. I have been going there as well as racing and owning many years and it hurts to see this.

mr nicotra has made a post on pinner's about the classic purse situation. looks like the cuts are throughout the field, although it says the 1,000 min. to start will remain. looks like the winner of this years classic will win $15,000 instead of $20,000 from the track. this is a shame, those super drivers run so hard and look forward to that race every year. looks like the economy has got a tight grip on the new owners of the track. pretty sad they cut the race purse a few weeks before the event. this will affect car count for sure on Labor day.

There are several different posts about food, drink and security and in the middle of one thread there is a mention of purse cut. We have that discussion here about drink and food in the past so I didn't want read every post.

I agree the food and cooler deal is happening all over. I believe what frosted every ones azz is there delivery. There strong arm tactics were called into question. Respect is important to fans who want to watch the show, Seems as though this was taken to far.:34;

Wasn't the Classic sponsored by Budweiser? Perhaps they pulled out (they seem to be pretty much pulling out of all motorsports these days). If so, how many tracks can pay a purse like that off the gate alone? From what I've heard, the Classic is never a sell out and Oswego struggles for weekly attendance. And then pay the MSA/ISMA/ROC sanction fees for the other events that weekend?

I'd say we are lucky that the track is still open and there will even be a Classic this Labor Day weekend.

Thats not correct, They have struggled the last couple of years but traditionally the classic was the biggest super race in the country. Budwieser was more heavily involved in the past. They still have a presence though.

Which part isn't correct? Budweiser pulling out? Okay, so they still have a small presence. That doesn't pay the bills or the purse like a full presence did.

Owning/operating racetracks is not a form of charity. No sponsors and a weak fan base (by that I mean you don't have a full crowd throughout the year, not just one race) means something has to give. In this case, the purse gets cut. I'd say the next step is there won't be a Classic or maybe the property Oswego sits on will become more valuable for something else. Can you say Manzanita?

I'd say the full house for the USAC SC race was a good shot in the arm, but, I suspect all the owners got was a lease fee from Kahne's group that actually put the race on.
