50th James/O'Connor

The USAC sprints and midgets are back together for a Saturday night show at Salem Speedway on Aug. 15th. This is the 50th scheduled running of the Joe James/Pat O’Connor Memorial. Thanks to the Midwest Oldtimers Vintage Race Car Club the first 400 paid adults through the gate will receive a free 50th Anniversary commemorative decal. The Oldtimers group has lined up some great cars for the annual vintage show held in conjunction with the James/O’Connor race. A Watson build Ford powered Indy Roadster, constructed for Don Branson, is scheduled to be on display, as is the #3 Higman midget, that was driven to the 1966 USAC championship by Mike McGreevy. At least two other Indy roadsters and several other vintage cars are expected for the August 15th event.

I have my plans all laid out to attend. Now I just have to make sure everything locks into place.

It's my first planned visit there in five years.

I will be there.....Last year car count sucked. But I think belleville nationals were scheduled the same weekend. I hope car count is better.
