Debating on whether or not to go to Knoxville and Oskaloosa next week. Don't mind the 1200 mile round trip at all. My concern is DRY,SLICK tracks that are packed hard and sheep footed to death. I understand that is what is desired for the wing cars...but does anyone there realize the USAC cars don't have a 5x5 wing on top to glue them to the track. To put on a good show they need a TACKY track with a cushion. I wonder if the powers that be at knoxville or osky realize what monumental events these 2 races could be if the tracks were prepped for non wing cars. These 2 races could become showcase races with huge crowds. When the nationals were run without wings in the 60's,70's and early 80's and became such a crown jewel, the tracks were prepped and it was some of the best racing ever. USAC..if you are listening...can't you convince these promoters what it takes to put on a great show. Last years show at Osky had teams burning up tires every time they hit the track.
Every thread that is posted on here about KOKOMO and HAUBSTADT raves about what great racing they have and I will vouch for that. There's a reason for that and it ain't rocket science....they PREP the track with the racers and fans in mind. I hope we don't get the same deal as the pa. swing..dry,dusty and slick.

Tim - just for a ref point, were you at USAC Hagerstown in '08 ? I'd be interested on your (or anyone else's) thoughts on how that surface was for wingless racing. (Note - 08, not 07, which looked hard & dry).

They run a soft track with nice cushion at Lincoln (Pa) Speedway. 3/8 mi. ARDC Midgets put on a great show there.
Would be a great venue for future USAC Eastern Swings (imho). They run winged 410's every Sat & have a very sprint savvy fanbase that would appreciate USAC style racing ...if we ever had a chance to see it. (bring the Midgets too).

Yes, Hagerstown was great in 08...and it sucked big time in 07...hard slick and guys getting out of the throttle before the flagstand. This year Big Diamond and Mercer were pitiful. Big Diamond really packs the track rolling around with those semi trucks packing the place like concrete. I guess I just don't get it.....When you have the caliber of a show that USAC can put on given a good track, wouldn't you do everything you could to insure a good show for the racers and fans? After all isn't this about the entertainment business?

C'mon Knoxville, this could be a great yearly deal, just give em a good track to race on.(Not like that 10 lap "exhibition" a couple years ago,I felt sorry for the guys who worked so hard to put that show on) Please don't drop the ball this time.
