Rain washes out Rumble Series midgets

INDIANAPOLIS –- Mid-afternoon showers forced cancellation of the midget and MiniCup portions of Sunday’s Rumble Series event at the Indianapolis Speedrome.
The support classes got their features in, with Trevor Fox, Tyler Kramer and C.J. Leary winning in karts and Nick Staker bagging a pair of victories in quarter midgets. Nathan Toney and Jonathon Lesiecki also won in quarter midgets. Leary, 13, is the son of 1997 Hoosier Hundred winner Chuck Leary.
IndyCar driver Sarah Fisher and her husband, Andy O’Gara, were on hand as owners of a Ford Focus midget entered for O’Gara’s brother, Kyle, 14. The younger O’Gara had hoped to make his third career midget start.
The Rumble Series’ summer schedule at the Speedrome wraps up on Sunday, Aug. 30 with UMRA TQ midgets, MiniCup stock cars, quarter midgets, karts and Jr. Sprints all on the program. The “Christmas in July” door prizes that were to be awarded will be carried over to that date.
Mario Marietta and Kyle Hamilton won the two midget races held earlier this summer at the fifth-mile paved track.
