Not exactly an open wheel track...but none the less sad to hear.

I believe that at one time this track was owned by the O'Connor family who now owns Kokomo Speedway. I think when they bought Kokomo they were still running Kankakee. They sold it sometime that very next year I think.

I just wonder how many other dirt tracks around the Midwest are in poor financial shape? Makes ya think this may not be the last one to close early this year during these tough financial times.

Here is a thought, maybe John Memmer can race there, and impersonate MJ all he wants to.

Spoonriver Speedway has been struggling all year with low car counts and low attendance. Some estimates have been put the attendance at just over 100 people. If you have been there you know the main grandstand can hold way more than that. It wouldn't surprise me they extend their July racing schedule on through the rest of the season:

Only two races in July and one is a makeup date for a MASS event that was rained out. Yeah it looks like it was planned but alot of the talk this spring was this year was a test to see how the new payout format was going to work in bringing in cars for the modified series (over 30 makes a better payout) and so far it doesn't look like it has worked.

This is sad news. SCORA had a race this season at Kankakee and it was one of the best races and tracks that we visited all season to this point. The track was the best and Doug Judy and his staff were very friendly. The track was so competitive that I even enjoyed watching all class competing. SCORA had another race scheduled their and we had really looked forward to going back.
