Anybody know why The "Burg" only paid out 1,000 to the Sprints point Champion? With the car counts they had this year that is just shamefull.

i would say because the profit margin in promoting local automobile races isn't close to what people believe it is. believe me!

I will go out on a limb and say if you factored the amount of hours Dave Rudisell put into that job divided by his pay it would equal out to less than minimum wage. If someone wants to dispute this then prove me wrong.
Dave did a helluva job for his first year at the Burg. I thoroughly enjoyed every trip I made to the track. I'm sure he learned a lot this year.... both what to do and not what to do. He earned every penny he made this year! |

So I guess the local racer who shows up week after week takes the hit? I never said Dave did a bad job or that he did not put out a lot of effort. But with the car counts they had all year supporting the promoter and the track, the racers took a hit from previous years. It will be interesting to see how much support there is next year. I am sure Dave did the best he could but 1,000 is pretty weak that's all. I never said being a promoter is an easy job. But the racers deserve better than that. I got a PM from Mr. Rudisill regarding my post. I have to say it was very insulting. The Dick Gains Classic did not even pay out the same as previous years. I was just asking an honest question and not throwing anyone under the bus. It is just dissapointing to see such a weak pay out. If you count on the 50/50 to pay your points fund..... something is not working to well.

as a promotor, there has to be something in it for you, otherwise, it's just not worth it. the priorities as a promotor should be:
1. paying the weekly purse that you posted 2. paying yourself 3. points fund if you can't pay the weekly purse, and yourself, there is absolutely no reason to stay in business and, you won't be in business very long anyway if you don't/can't. a smart promotor should never post a "fixed" point fund payout unless you've found a sponsor(s) to pay it (and it's in your bank account before you advertise the payout!). if you're paying it yourself, whether it be from pit gate set asides, the 50/50 drawing etc., that money should be used to pay the purse and yourself in the event of a bad night at the gate. if there's any leftover at the end of year, then distribute it to your racers however you see fit at the end of the season. very few local racers even think about the point fund when determining where they are going to race. as far as racer support at the BURG next year? as long as hugo chavez and the arabs don't choke our economy to death with the oil situation, it will be at least as good as it was this year, if not better. i believe if it falls off, it will be more the economic situation (gasoline prices etc.), rather than the point fund payout. |

Just a few thoughts concerning point funds in general. This is not directed at any one track or competitor. When determining how much money tracks might have in their point funds you must consider their sources for that money. One is 50/50 collections. It varies from track to track but most tracks average about $400 paid out to the lucky winner and therefore a like amount to the point fund. If that track runs 20 shows a year that is $8000 to be split up among all divisions. Another source for some tracks is $ from the tire deal. That can't add up to much, either. And some tracks have companies that donate to the point fund. Often that is in the form of product and not cash. Therefore it is unrealistic to expect any considerable amount of cash to be in the point fund. I would like to see tracks take that $400 (or whatever it is) from the 50/50 and distribute it among the back end of the feature field each night. Say $40 each for 11th through 20th. Same with any tire deal money, if they have it. And just give any donated products out at the end of the year. Most local teams need the cash as they go anyway. JMO

$250K in cash and contingencies were handed out at the Knoxville banquet Saturday night. 48 drivers in both the 410 and 360 standings walked away with cash and contingencies. Prizes handed out included Hoosier tires, chassis, Heads, blocks, wings, hubs and spindles, drivelines and axles. Big contingency winners included car owner Steve Wares and Mark Dobmeier, who went home with a J&J chassis, and Nate Van Haaften and Rager Phillips, who took home a Maxim chassis each.
So how far behind is nonwing racing in IN??? |
