Faas is Fastest at Lawrenceburg!

Round 2 of the King of Indiana Sprint Series

was set to roll off at the Lawrenceburg

Speedway. 28 cars were in attendance for the

first annual “Eddie Bennett Memorial” in

honor of former Lawrenceburg Speedway track

promoter Eddie Bennett who recently passed

away. 19 year old Nick Faas from Huntington

Beach California has only been in the

Midwest for a few months driving sprint cars,

but had already tasted victory earlier this

spring at Twin Cities. Faas was set to roll off

in the fifth position in the 30 lap feature race,

after winning his heat race earlier on in the

evening. Casey Shuman and Ted Hines led

the field to green. Ted Hines took the lead

down the backstretch bringing along Nick

Faas who chased him for 4 laps before taking

the lead away from Hines. Faas had no

trouble turning the wheel around the 3/8 mile

race track. As the laps wound down, the only

question people were asking was, “who would

finish second?” Faas led the final 25 laps, on

his way to his first career feature win at The

Lawrenceburg Speedway. Following Faas

across the line were Jonathan Hendrick, Casey

Shuman, Dave Darland, and Jeff Bland, Jr.

Heat race winners were Ted Hines, Nick Faas,

and Brady Short. Thomas Meseraull won the

B-main. The Lawrenceburg Chevrolet Sprint

Cars return to The Lawrenceburg Speedway

on Saturday May 30.

Kevin Roberts Jr. wins first career AMSA
feature!

When the checkered flag had fallen on the

AMSA feature, Kevin Roberts, Jr. had no idea

he had just won the feature. He knew he had

passed his father on the white flag, but he

was sure that they were racing for the second

position. His father, Kevin, Sr. would start

from the pole in the 20 lap feature, with Sam

Ashworth flanked to his outside. When the

green dropped, Sam took the lead away

from Kevin Roberts, Sr. and led for the first 13

laps. He built up a commanding lead, but

broke in turn 2 had retired for the event. This

turned the race over to Kevin Roberts, Sr. Sr.

seemed to be cruising right along, when on

the white flag lap, his son, Kevin Jr. made a

pass around his father and held on to win the

AMSA feature. Sr. was able to finish second

with Beau Stewart, Rod Henning and Rod

Sanders rounding out the top 5. Heat race

winners were Sanders, Ashworth, and Roberts,

Sr. The AMSA Mini Sprints return to the

Speedway on June 5-6.

Willis Wins Inaugural race at home track!

Jason Willis grew up in Lawrenceburg

Indiana. He raced go-carts at the motorcycle

track behind the main grandstand, He never

seemed to have the luck he needed to win on

the big track as bad luck would always catch

up. This night would be a first for Jason. He

started inside row 3 in the feature, but would

lead lap 1, and never look back. Tate Martz

did what he could to keep Willis in his sights

but it would not matter. Willis dominated the

feature race for the MTQRL, and will go down

in history as the inaugural feature winner for

the inaugural feature race of the MTQRL.

Robert Nichols and Jason Willis were heat

race winners. The next race for the Vincennes

University MTQRL will be held at Jefferson

County fairgrounds in Madison, Indiana.

I personally want to say thank you to the Lawrenceburg crew and fans. We know the MTQRL is a startup series with a lot of growing to do. Mr. Rudisell has been thoughtful enough to give us the opportunity to race at one of Indiana's finest sprint car tracks. It has truly been a privilege to be there.

If you haven't been to Lawrenceburg recently, I highly recommend you take in a show there. Everyone there seems to love what they do and it shows. We really enjoyed the older cars and the pizza give away. Awesome stuff.

Special thanks to John Memmer & his dad for taking time to talk with Sam at Lawrenceburg. They allowed Sam to "help" load the car after working on it in the afternoon. He has been telling eveyone that he got to "drive" a sprint car. He wore his new John Memmer t-shirt at Haubstadt but the rain canceled the show. Good Luck the rest of the season!
