Before I get verbally blasted for not using Mapquest or some other source, let me say, I find asking the people in a specific area the best way to go is the only way to go.
Looking for the best way to go from Indy? I will be heading to Indy 8 and 9 May, and I am looking for the best route from Indy to Bloomington Speedway for the USAC sprints Friday nite 8 May. Thanks Have a good day...see you at the races Rich - Arnold, Missouri |

I travel to Bloomington from Indianapolis on State Road 37/Harding Street (Exit 4 off of I-465) which is dual lane highway. You follow State Road 37 around Bloomington to Dillman Road and make a left. You will then go left on South Walnut Street and turn right onto Fairfax and go down the hill and you are there. Good luck and enjoy the races.

I take Exit #4 (Route 37) off of I74/465 and head south. There is a back way (side way?) in described below. If you haven't been there before, I would go all the way around Bloomington to Old Route 37 and turn left (North) on it. The track has a sign pointing to it, a right turn with a gas station in the northeast corner of the intersection. If you like city traffic, you could also go east on Route 46 just north of Bloomington and turn south on Walnut. That will take you through the heart of downtown Bloomington, and then the track will be a left turn in the southern part of Bloomington.
I am sure that someone local can tell you the road on which you can turn left off of Route 37 for the shortcut. If you can look left and drive at the same time, you will see a service station on a hill to your left. Take the road right in front of it, go 1/3 block or so, turn right on the narrow, downhill road by the stone wall, take that to the cemetary, turn left and then almost immediately right. Goes straight to the track. Like I said, it works a little better if you are following someone who is obviously going to the track, but is easy once you have been that way once. Frank Daigh |

If you are coming from the westside of Indy take Ind 67 south to Martinsville. Turn left at the stoplight where Ind 39 goes into martinsville. Follow 39 and it will merge into Ind 37. Go thru Bloomington to Dillman rd and follow Mudpacker's instructions from there. Believe me I go from the westside to Bloomington almost every week and 67 is much faster than going 37 all the way plus it is easier to get off 465 on that exit. The bad part is that 465 is all tore up on the westside and prone to rush hour backups

I agree, 67 is a lot faster and easier driving than 37 especially at the time you will be traveling. I come from the other side so of 465 so I get to 37 first and a lot of the time just continue the 3-5 miles to 67 because it always seems like the 37 exit is backed up a long way and the 67 exit barely has a car on it.

Thanks for everyone's input - I am sure that I will get to Bloomington now with no problem, I greatly appreciate it.
Living in St. Louis and knowing how rush hour traffic is here, I can only imagine what Indy is like during rush hour. Have a good day...see you at the races Rich - Arnold, Missouri |

I agree with rt 67 to Martinsville. If you are west of the new Indy airport then take Ameriplex (this road has 3 names 6 points and Ronald Reagan pkwy) to 67. Don’t miss the rt 39 turn off of 67 or you will end up in Paragon (a good place to go Sat. night).
If you are coming from or to St Louis take Rd 46 from Terre Haute you will save an hour. Yes Dillman road but if you miss it ¼ mi south is old state road 37 (Walnut st) Fairfax Rd is about a mile north. At the track if you get there before the gates open (5:30) you can put up your lawn chair and reserve a place. I just came from putting up my chair and there are already two campers set up. The track has two entrances south (Fairfax) and west (walnut pike). I like the west one because I set in turn 4 and I am just a few steps from my car. I wear ugly yellow head phones so that I can hear the PA on FM99.1. |
