UMRA Season Kicks Off Saturday at Brownstown
This Saturday the road to the 2009 UMRA championship begins with round one at the Brownstown Speedway. It will be the second year in a row that the lid lifter will be held at the Jackson County track and if last year’s race was any indication we will not know who the winner will be until the moment the checkered flag falls. A year ago the Brownstown event was run under cloudy skies and bone chilling temperatures for the May 3rd race. Heat races went to Patrick Wolf, Terry Goff, and Kyle Lux. The Semi Feature on that night went to Tate Martz. When the twenty-lap feature event went green all eyes were on Martz who charged from a ninth row starting position to the lead by the halfway point. The Rushville driver was looking like a sure winner until he collided with a lapped car driven by Eddie Gagnon late in the race. The sudden turn of events led to two-time series champion Ron20Combs being the first driver to visit victory lane in 2008. Terry Goff took the first step towards his record breaking thirteenth series title by crossing the finish line second followed by his brother Oogie who finished third. Brent Turner had an impressive run in his first career UMRA race as he came home fourth while Tad Cheek had a great fifth place finish. Saturday in Louisville it will be “The Run for the Roses.” For the cars, stars, and fans of the UMRA TQ Midgets it will be “The Showdown in Brownstown!” Gates open Saturday at three pm with practice set for 5:30 a nd race time scheduled for seven. |
