3 Wide Life travels to the Madera Speedway in Merced, California to check out the DMS Driver Challenge.
Charlotte, NC (April 20, 2009) – Marc DeBeaumont had an idea when he needed to fill the seat for his USAC midget car. Bring in some young aspiring drivers, give them coaching from some of racing’s biggest names and let them compete in front of top talent scouts with the promise of the winner having a fully funded ride for the entire 2009 season. “It’s simple,” said DeBeaumont, “Let the young drivers drive and see what happens. Everyone here got a personal invitation. I am looking for a driver for this season, but my goal is to help out all of these young kids further their racing careers. We plan on supporting all of them where we can, even the kids who do not make it to the final cut.” DeBeaumont brought in USAC Triple Crown Champion Jerry Coons Jr as well as NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Bryan Clauson to help coach the young drivers. Each driver was given approximately 45 laps broken into multiple segments. The first rounds were a week long. The field was then narrowed to 10, for a final one-day shootout. “We had fun getting to know these guys and girls,” said 3 Wide Life host Brittney Cason. This event is a great opportunity and I think Marc (DeBeaumont) will be happy with his winner. This type of thing is exactly what 3 Wide Life aims to do. Show racing at is purest form and promote the sport from the bottom up.” To learn more about the DMS Driver Challenge visit www.dmsdriverchallenge.com For more information about 3 Wide Life contact: Meghan@levsports.com |

I actually had the opportunity to drop in at Madera for the DMS Driver Challenge during it's first week of operation, and I found it to be an excellent program that offered some young aspiring drivers an opportunity to showcase their skills to some influential people in the sport. For their initial investment, these competitors will now be monitored in their progress in the various forms of racing they compete in, and I believe it will behoove any young driver to get involved in this program in the future. It's money well spent, and an opportunity to not only show what you've got, but to learn a great deal from the experience of driving a pavement midget in front of those who can offer assistance and advice. I really enjoyed seeing Tim and Bryan Clauson, Ryan Kaplan, and Marc DeBeaumont work with these drivers during the two days I was there.
Kudos to Marc for creating such a great program to help develop more young racing talent. The sport can only benefit from such a thing. Dean Mills |
