There is a big karting event at the Dismore's track in NewCastle this weekend. Not for "fun karts" but the real racing kind. They are running a 200 mile enduro on Sunday, with Qualifying and a 75 mile LCQ on Saturday. Lot's of name drivers mixed in with some very talented karters and weekend warriors. 70 teams will start the main event. Cost is free to watch, pit passes are not free though.

Dismore Jr and Dan Weldon won the first event in '05 and Ricky Rudd teamed up with Paulie Haraka last year.

Names you'll recognize:
Dan Weldon, Scott Dixon, Vitor Meira, AJ Foyt IV, Robby McGehee Lynsey Tilton, Chuck Gurney Jr., Brian Gerster, Michael Lewis, Rex Norris, Scott Goodyear.

Here are the results:

http://www.mylaps.com/results/showevent.jsp?id=259460

My team was able to make it from 43 to 23 in the first 50 laps and then the second driver lost brakes and hit a fence post (the worst crash of the day) bent the kart and I was able to bring the kart home the last 50 laps with no brakes and a kart that would not turn....

A lot of karts had break problems. If you were not at the race, make sure you mark it on your calanders as this is the #1 kart race to see.

They were having problems with timing so I am hoping for them to be up soon. Not sure though

I had first become familiar with this event a year ago when I learned that Ricky Rudd had won. This is a very cool deal with some of the best Karting Stars in the world ... yep , right here at New Castle !

Back on August 27th , I visited this track for the first time having been invited to come and turn some laps with members of Cheever Racing , including Eddie Jr. and 14 year old son , Eddie III.

"Little Eddie" turned the quickest laps of the day among 7 participating. A very nice young man who will surely make his mark in the racing world !

I would gladly take a talented young person to New Castle next year ; either as sponsor or kart owner.
