6/26/23 6:05 PM A NEW USAC RECORD! 3-TIME USAC SPRINT WINNERS ABOUND IN JUNE
https://www.usacracing.com/news/spri...abound-in-june ![]() A NEW USAC RECORD! 3-TIME USAC SPRINT WINNERS ABOUND IN JUNE By: Richie Murray – USAC Media Speedway, Indiana (June 26, 2023)………In its 68th year of competition, the 2023 USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship season has already produced an all-time record. With Brady Bacon’s feature victory at Wisconsin’s Wilmot Raceway on June 24, the accomplishment set a new all-time mark as the earliest in a season in which four different drivers have accumulated at least three feature wins. Entering this weekend’s series events on Friday-Saturday, June 30-July 1 at Putnamville, Indiana’s Lincoln Park Speedway, Brady Bacon, Kyle Cummins, Justin Grant and Jake Swanson have already reached the three-win mark. Bacon (Broken Arrow, Okla.) has taken the top honors at Bubba Raceway Park, the Terre Haute Action Track, and most recently, Wilmot.* Cummins (Princeton, Ind.) has produced a trio of victories at Bubba’s, Circle City Raceway and Action Track USA. Meanwhile, Grant (Ione, Calif.), the reigning series champion, has saddled up to winner’s circle at Tri-State Speedway, and the half-miles of Eldora Speedway and Port Royal Speedway.* Swanson (Anaheim, Calif.) has already outdone his total USAC National win title entering the season with scores at Circle City, Knoxville Raceway and Grandview Speedway, and that’s not even counting the non-points victory he earned in February at Florida’s Volusia Speedway Park. The previous record for the earliest in a season that four drivers had achieved three wins came in 2010 when Damion Gardner, Levi Jones, Bryan Clauson and Jon Stanbrough each reached a triple by July 16, a full 23 days later than the new record set in 2023. Fascinatingly, two more drivers – C.J. Leary and Emerson Axsom – each enter this weekend’s races at Lincoln Park’s 5/16-mile with two wins apiece and could find their way into the three-win club as well with another victory on the 5/16-mile dirt oval. Interestingly, what makes this year’s record even more impressive is that, in 29 of those 68 seasons, there weren’t even four drivers to break three wins, most recently a decade ago in 2013.* And, this year, there are no drivers to this point that just have a single victory to their name. The numbers this year are impressive, just as the wheelmen and teams who’ve made it happen.* Perhaps in this weekend’s Bill Gardner Sprintacular, we’ll witness the first four-time winner this season, maybe a first-time winner, or quite possibly, one of the two-time winners propel themselves to the ranks of the three-time winners. Regardless of how this weekend transpires, even in June, this has already been a year for the record book. * RACE DETAILS: The 9th annual IndianaOpenWheel.com Bill Gardner Sprintacular awaits this weekend, Friday-Saturday, June 30-July 1 at Putnamville, Indiana’s Lincoln Park Speedway. On Friday, the program consists of the USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship co-sanctioned by the Midwest Sprint Car Series, plus 305 RaceSaver Sprint Cars and Modifieds. Saturday’s event features the USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship co-sanctioned by the Midwest Sprint Car Series, plus the Midwest Mini Sprint Association, Super Stocks and Bombers. The MSCS format will be utilized throughout Friday’s $5,000-to-win 30-lap feature while USAC’s format will be used during Saturday’s program, which culminates with a $10,000-to-win 40-lap main event. Pits open at 1pm Eastern with the front gates opening at 4:45pm and hot laps at 6pm with qualifying and racing immediately following. General admission tickets are $30, kids 10 and under are free.* Pit passes are $40 with kids 10 and under free. * ============== * THE DATE IN WHICH A 4TH DIFFERENT DRIVER BECAME A 3-TIME WINNER ON THE USAC SPRINT CAR SEASON: 2010: July 16 2002: July 20 1977: July 23 2022: July 25 1998: July 26 2018: July 28 2021: July 29 2003: August 10 2016: August 27 1970: August 29 1999: September 11 2019: September 13 2017: September 16 2014: September 18 2020: September 18 1975: September 21 1965: October 3 1997: October 4 1969: October 5 1974: October 13 1956: October 14 1973: October 14 1979: October 14 1972: October 15 1978: October 15 1960: October 16 1971: October 17 1957: October 20 2001: October 20 2011: October 29 2007: November 1 2006: November 4 2005: November 5 2004: November 6 1963: November 9 1976: November 14 2015: November 21 None: 1958, 1959, 1961, 1962, 1964, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 2000, 2008, 2009, 2012 & 2013 * * ======================= * 2023 USAC AMSOIL NATIONAL SPRINT CAR STAT LEADERS Driver Point Leader: Emerson Axsom Entrant Point Leader: Clauson Marshall Newman Racing #47BC Most Feature Wins: 3-Brady Bacon, Kyle Cummins, Justin Grant & Jake Swanson Top Rookie in Points: 8th-Daison Pursley Most Laps Led: 101-Brady Bacon Most Top-Fives: 11-Emerson Axsom Most Top-Tens: 15-Emerson Axsom Most Fast Qualifying Times: 3-Justin Grant Most Heat Race Wins: 7-Robert Ballou Most Feature Starts: 16-Emerson Axsom, Brady Bacon, Robert Ballou, Kyle Cummins, Justin Grant, C.J.
