You are probably correct that the economy is always a consideration. This would be true for any local teams. I also think that the xTreme series may be splitting up the car counts some.

Same in the sprints, The dash 12 is alive and well. And 360s are holding or growing but the hammer class is dropping like flies. Some of this isn't just cost, Some are having problems either getting motors or parts for them.
I'll be at the Saturday show and it usually drops a few just because of the big track freakout but hope to have a full field for features.

And here it is; in Northern California there has not been a pavement Midget race for at least three years, perhaps four. With the arrival of the overhead cam engines car count started to dive. The dirt Midgets of the BCRA now run only with a USAC show; no stand-alone shows.
In the Pacific Northwest, it looks like some effort is being made to provide a bit of parity for the older pushrod engines (-12s, and similar).
