Two of my favorite winged sprint car drivers of all time. Gary Wright from Hooks, TX was dominant in the '90's & 2000's and Stevie Smith was a tough cookie also following nicely in the footsteps of his father, Steve.

Well, I try. Sadly down here in southeast Texas, sprint car racing is all but dead. There is only one 1/4 mile dirt track within 80 miles of Houston and they only run winged 305s, occasionally. We have a pretty healthy micro sprint track south of Houston. Aaron Reutzel came out of that program. While there are certainly some very talented drivers from this part of Texas (don't have to state a few), there doesn't seem to be the depth of talent that comes out of California, Pennsylvania or Indiana. . . . It was a real joy to watch Gary Wright race. He won the night the photo was taken.
