Not sure if anyone was paying attention last night but Kyle Larson made his UMP modified debut at Eldora with the Castrol Flo Night in America Late model series. Guess what? He won! Surprise surprise. Of course it helped he driving a Nick Hoffman affiliated car, but he started 6th I believe and got it done. Just another reason that we should consider ourselves lucky to watch one of the greatest racing talents ever. He’s won in midgets, wingless, silver crown, LM’s, wings, trucks, and now modified at Eldora. Pretty amazing

He was running laps in the feature one second quicker than Tyler Nicely and nicely is one of the top in mods.

He also had a victory in the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2015 driving for Ganassi. Scott Dixon, Tony Kanaan and Jamie McMurray were his teammates.

He won a feature in 2022 racing a micro midget out in PA.

I’m sorry to be the fly in this hero worship ointment but isn’t this the same guy who boycotted the chili bowl because it didn’t pay enough money?? How many peanuts did he win for this race? I’ll get hammered for stating the obvious I know. But at what point is lauding a guy who some have begun to compare to AJ and Mario, for winning a mod race at Eldora?? The guy is good but let’s get real people. He is a second a lap faster than one of the best mod guys. What level of racing will Nicely advance to? I’m sorry but excitement over winning a mod race after the “statement he made” of not running Tulsa over prize money is a little much. I’ll be eager to hear the cheering when he triumphs in a street stock sometime.

I don’t think that comparing being at a week long event like the Chili Bowl and jumping in a car in a second class the night you are already at the track is the same.

The Chili Bowl boycott was not as big a deal as many thought....You dont want to run , thats fine, your choice....Now, to say this is a week long grind on guys like Larson is absurd....they roll into town, run a prelim night then go away until Saturday....Yes, he is a fantastic talent, but I agree with Yeleyfan, if your pissed about 10K win prize in Tulsa and run for $ 1500.00 or whatever it pays to win a modified race, then you look silly.....

He didn’t boycott it he was running a late model at Wild West shootout. He had nothing left to prove in Tulsa. I agree the payout is crummy for what you spend to be there, but there’s no shortage of cars every year.
