I was born in 82 so obviously I missed alot of great racing before my time that many of you did get to see. As a youngster and a kid I grew up at Kokomo Speedway...didn't miss a race for years until my eye accident on the backstretch when I was 13...missed alot of racing between 13 and 35 years old. I was brought back into racing in 2017 by Funk and The O'connor Family due to my business.
As a kid the big constant battle was Dave Darland and Tony Elliott. Mix in on any given night the likes of Tony Ploughe, Tony Jarrett, Kurt Hawkins, just to name a few. Then comes Shane Cottle, Levi Jones, Jon Stanbrough, The Hines, B.C., and obviously some others. Then you have the start of these guys now being kids. I take a look at the 2023 USAC results so far, and here we are Mid April and there has yet to be a multi time winner this season. I know the season is young, and that will likely change soon, there was a rainout, another cancellation, but still the fact of no repeat winners yet. Sure some is technology and better equipment, cars, motors, tires, etc...but are we seeing some history here? Is this possibly some of the biggest by numbers amount of talent anyone has ever seen? No repeat winners yet and the likes of KTJ, Ballou, TMez, Stockon, Moles, Westfall, Seavey, Axsom, Rogers, many others who can win at any track on any night, yet to claim a victory on this young season. I personally just do not remember when there was 15+ drivers pretty evenly matched, that could win on any given night, any track.
