Just curious. How many of you think that negative message board comments (not necessarily IOW) affect the race promoter/race track in his/her thoughts or plans concerning a weekly race program?

Isn't change exactly what the poster wants?
It's that sometimes the change made is not the one the poster was seeking, or expecting. Jim Morrison |

I think that most promotors are single minded enough to not be too affected by what is said, but I would think that if the comments aren't too outlandish they can be used to impliment or improve situations.
Look at what Kevin Briscoe got done with the 100 lap race a few years ago. It seemingly started out as an idea on here and got implimented. Plus, everyone knows that between Don Moore and I we have solved all of racings biggest problems and USAC, all of the tracks and the Chili Bowl are just using all of our ideas to make themselves better, plus raking in huge profits in the meantime. (Just kidding for those who think I am being serious.) |

The negative comments affect a lot more important things than what the promoters do.
And 90% of the time, the people making those comments are uninformed or are just looking to spread bad rumors. |

Personally, I think that the negativity that is often strewn around in here is very detrimental to the sport we love. Not directly, but certainly in an indirect manner. While a message board can be used for good things, this place, and others like it, often resort to nothing more than a haven for negative comments from primarily ill informed people.
I have been very critical of those who use this forum to vent their angst about whatever it is that is bothering them about any subject they can conceive of. I have been especially critical of those who do so in an anonymous manner. I feel that most of these comments are not of a constructive nature, but are done more in a destructive, divisive way. We all have a responsibilty to approach this forum in the same manner, and with the same common courtesy we would show a person if they were standing before us. And most often, that isn't done around here. I have been very critical of those that have the propensity to do this. I think it's irresponsible as one can be in an online forum. What simply amazes me is, when you see something positive in this forum, something that promotes the greater good of our sport, you get about 1/3 of the usual responses. Which is really sad...When there's a positive subject nobody seems to care. But, a negative tread shows up, and EVERYONE wants to weigh in on it. Why does it have to be that way? Truth is, it doesn't. But, we all have to police ourselves if we want a veritable online utopia. The simple truth is, if everyone just followed the rule that your Mother taught you..."If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all", then quite frankly, some people would have nothing to say at all. And everyone here knows that to be true. DM - "I'm starting with the man in the mirror. I'm asking him to change his ways. And no message could have been any clearer...if you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make a change". - Michael Jackson |
