Daugherty holds narrow lead in Rumble Series owner points

BROOKVILLE, Ohio -- Jon Stanbrough’s breakthrough victory last month in Columbus, Ohio, has given Rick Daugherty the early lead in the Rumble Series of Indoor Racing car owners championship.

Stanbrough, one of the nation’s top sprint car drivers, scored his first career midget victory and first indoors at the “Buckeye Bowl Indoor Midget Nationals,” winning a spirited battle with Geoff Kaiser. That gives Daugherty’s Findlay, Ohio-based RAD Racing Inc. a 72-68 edge over Kaiser’s owner, Don Moore of Don Moore Racing Enterprises LLC. Mike Hamilton’s Hamilton Motorsports (with driver Kyle Hamilton) is third with 62 points.

The three-city, five-race indoor series continues with the inaugural “Rumble in the SeaGate Centre” on Friday, Dec. 19 and Saturday, Dec. 20 in downtown Toledo. It wraps up with the 11th annual “Rumble in Fort Wayne” on Friday, Dec. 26 and Saturday, Dec. 27 at the Memorial Coliseum Expo Center in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Stanbrough will be joined in Toledo by NASCAR star Ken Schrader on the two-car RAD Racing team. Schrader will be in the No. 14 that Kevin Olson drove to fourth place in Columbus.

Rumble Series promoter Tony Barhorst of Classic Motorsports Inc. created the car owners championship this year to recognize the people he calls the “real backbone of our sport.” The top 15 owners will share in a $7,020 point fund, with the champion collecting $1,150. The fund is sponsored by Classic Motorsports and Elliott’s Trailers of Warsaw, Ind.
