11/15/20 6:57 PM STAT BOOK: 2020 USAC NOS ENERGY DRINK NATIONAL MIDGETS – BAKO/MERCED EDITION
More... ![]() STAT BOOK: 2020 USAC NOS ENERGY DRINK NATIONAL MIDGETS – BAKO/MERCED EDITION Speedway, Indiana (November 15, 2020)………And then there were three…just a trio of races remaining in the USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget season, all in the state of California: Nov. 17 at Bakersfield Speedway and the Nov. 20-21 closers at Merced Speedway. Oh, how so much can change in a heartbeat.* With one flick, Tyler Courtney is now the chaser for the championship whereas Chris Windom is now the hunted as the point leader by 11 markers.* In reality, yes, there are three races left, but in essence, there is but one – the next one at Bakersfield.* There, the NOS Energy Drink November Classic will pay full points, with a max of 84 up for grabs. Conversely, at Merced, each night will pay appearance points only to all competing USAC licensed drivers and team, 50 across the board, meaning that the last opportunity to make up any ground lies at Bako. The owner’s championship is also in the balance with Windom’s Tucker-Boat Motorsports taking over the reigns from Courtney’s Clauson-Marshall Racing team by the same 11-point margin.* Team co-owner Chad Boat is seeking to become the first USAC National Midget winning driver to later win an owner championship with another driver in his car. Buddy Kofoid continued his impressive Rookie run with the series, winning last Saturday’s 53rd Western World Championships at Arizona Speedway, and leads all Rookies in the standings, fourth overall among all drivers. Tanner Thorson’s feature win last Friday at Arizona was his season-leading sixth of the 2020 campaign, and he stands just 32 points out of the championship lead in third behind Windom & Courtney. Courtney leads all series drivers with 177 laps led and is tied with Thorson in terms of fast qualifying times with five apiece.* Windom, meanwhile, owns a series-best 19 top-fives and shares the lead with Thorson at 21 top-ten results.* Windom tops all with eight heat race victories. Six drivers remain as the only individuals to start all 25 feature races in 2020, including Cole Bodine, Cannon McIntosh, Daison Pursley, Courtney, Kofoid and Windom.* Pursley equaled the best result of his career with a 3rd place finish at Arizona on Saturday.* He finished 3rd at Nebraska’s Jefferson County Speedway on July 17 and has now finished inside the top-five in three of the last four races. Tuesday at Bakersfield, the USAC NOS Energy Drink National & USAC Western States Midgets will be joined by the California Lightning Sprints.* The drivers meeting takes place at 5pm Pacific with hot laps beginning at 6pm.* Grandstands are closed to all spectators. *Pit passes are $40 for USAC members & $45 for non-members. * 2020 USAC NOS ENERGY DRINK NATIONAL MIDGET STAT LEADERS Driver Point
