BOSS Set for Annual Pittsburgh Visit
This Saturday, July 27th, the stars and cars of the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series will tackle the Monster! Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway (PPMS) is one of the few TRUE half miles left in the midwest. Historically, race tracks were measured 1 foot off the inside guardrail. By that measueremnt, PPMS is a half mile. However, some of the fastest (and bravest) will run inches from the outside wall on this 90 foot wide racing surface. The distance traveled will be closer to 5/8 of a mile per lap for the rim riders. The BOSS series has made annual stops at Pittsburgh every year, and every event seems to be one o the closer and more exciting events of the season. "When we first came here in 2012, I saw the enormous size of the track and my thoughts were that the racing may be lousy. But wow, was I ever wrong", said Aaron Fry, the promoter of the tour. "We have seen several last lap passes and 3 wide lead battles. Even a photo finish a few years back", he continued. Indeed, The Monster always seems to provide 2 grooves. Typically, a few guys find great runs off the very bottom of the track, while others roll the dice and gamble along the high line, inches from the steel guardrail. Matt Westfall, driver of the 33M car for Marshall Motorsports is the current point leader on the tour. He is fresh off a win at Fremont Speedway in the last event on July 13th. However, Milford, Ohio's Cody Gardner is repeating his 2018 performance. Around one year ago, Gardner got hot in the middle of the season reeling off back to back runner-ups and several top 5's in the middle to latter stages of the year. On July 3, he scored his first career sprint car win at Waynesfield, then backed it up with a 3rd place at Fremont in the last event. He sits second behind Westfall and within striking distance of the lead. Dustin Ingle of Lima, Ohio holds the 3rd spot. Dustin has been fast all season, but luck has not been on his side. Kory Crabtree from West Jefferson, Ohio pilots the Dom's Gulf 60 and holds the 4th spot. Steve Little from Waynsfield sits in the 5th spot. All 3 of these guys are also still in great contention to win the 2019 title. Rounding out the top 10 includes Dustin Webber, Parker Frederickson, Justin Owen, Dallas Hewitt, and Korbyn Hayslett. Meanwhile, Buddy Lowther, Mike Miller, Matt Cooley, Ben Knight, and Lee Underwood round out the top 15. Most of the top 15 is expected along with a strong field of Pennsylvania drivers including guys like Carmen Perigo, Chandler Leiby, Andy Feil, Bob McMillin, Jeremy Kornbau, Rick Holley and many more. Pit gates will open at 4 pm with grandstand gates opening at 5. Driver meeting will be at 5:45 with hot laps at 6 and racing at 7. Adult general admission is $20 with reserved seats available for $25. Seniors are $19 while kids 13-16 are $10, and 6-12 are $5. Children 5 and under are free. For race teams, pit passes are $40. Kids pit passes will be $15 for ages 5 and under. There are no membership fees or entry fees and transponders will be provided free of charge by Precise Racing - Hoosier Mid Atlantic from Sarver, PA. This event will also pay $300 to start and all current top 15 in BOSS points are guaranteed $325 to start the main event. The 1-10 spots will pay the standard BOSS purse, including $1,500 to win.
