Duncan Claims BOSS Wing Event at Montpelier

A beautiful early fall evening greeted the new winged version of the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series at Montpelier Motor Speedway Saturday night. Track promoter Harold Hunter and his crew served up another excellent racing surface, much to the delight of the 29 winged sprint car teams that signed in. Cole Duncan of Lockbourne, Ohio put on a clinic, after an early race battle with Lee Jacobs, and went on to the convincing $3,000 payday.

The evening began with Lee Jacobs setting fast time and a new track record in qualifying with an 11.606 second lap. In all, fourteen of the 29 cars eclipsed the old track record. Three exciting heat races were won by Jacobs, Cody Gardner and Kody Kinser. The 14 car B-Main saw 12 teams make the call for the green flag. As is typical, the B was the wild and wooly event of the night. Kody Swanson was able to score the win to earn his qualifying time back for the main event.

With fast qualifier, Jacobs, pulling the "zero" pill, the main event lined straight up. Jacobs and Cole Duncan paced the 20 car field to the green flag. This titanic Buckeye duo set sail into the Hoosier night in a titanic throw down at the point. The pair raced side by side for the first 8 laps, literally less than a tenth of a second apart at the start finish line in 5 of the first 8 circuits.

With the lead battle at its peak, some big moves were happening deep in the field. Cale Thomas was on the charge from his 18th starting spot after finishing 3rd in the B-Main. Non wing veteran Robert Ballou had the crowd on their feet as well, after a great heat race effort, Ballou was also on the charge from his 11th starting spot. Clinton Boyles and Danny Smith were also on the prowl making big moves.

Only 2 cautions slowed the event, the second of which eliminated, Josh Davis, from competition. He was the only casualty as as 19 of the 20 starters completed the race, 17 of those on the lead lap.

Over the final laps, Duncan motored away from Jacobs with Kody Kinser coming home 3rd. Cale Thomas was hard charger of the event advancing 14 spots to finish 4th and Clinton Boyles charged from 15th to round out the top 5. Rounding out the top 10 were Danny Smith, Ronnie Blair, Robert Ballou, Jack Sodeman Jr and Travis Philo.

This was the final event for the BOSS winged sprint cars for 2018. We'd like to thank Atomic Speedway, Fremont Speedway, Gas City Speedway and Montpelier Speedway for hosting this year's events. Also, a huge thank you to the race fans and race teams who chose to support this endeavor. We vow to make it bigger and better next season. Watch for an exciting announcement about 2019 in the coming days!

For the record, what I just posted above - I did the EXACT same thing Friday morning with our non wing Kokomo results from Thursday night. I attempted to post them here about a dozen times from 2 different accounts and got the "500 Internal Server Error" message.

To see complete Kokomo non wing results from 9/27, please got to our website, buckeyesprints.com

Thanks!!

Very odd issue. BOSS was a great addition and support class for the Smackdown Final. Thanks for your and your working man's series teams commitment to running a Thursday night show. I just hope USAC and Kokomo will build on this relationship as they have with MSCS.

Sorry John. I was inferring the recent USAC and MSCS cooperation/working together for teams and race fans. Hopefully USAC and BOSS can continue a harmonic future @ Kokomo's Smackdown in 2019 and beyond.
