Great job by Kokomo Speedway for getting the races in this weekend. Maybe next year they should let BOSS sanction the race and see if they can get 60 to 70 cars to show up? I was a little surprised with the car count this year for such a big event.

Sanctioning has nothing to do with it. Money races scare off non wing teams.

I'll drive back and forth from Terre Haute each day to see the 35 or so that were there for this event. The 60 to 70 that would be there for the event you propose, maybe, maybe not. Car count isn't the most important thing. In fact, it's over rated, IMO.

You put the top fifteen NW teams this side of the Rockies at the same track and more teams will stay away than than support it.

Don't matter if its Kokomo or any other track.

Boss succeeds because it doesn't draw most of these teams and most track regulars can race with, or beat em.

I will say though, If you wanna beat the best and learn, You have to race with the best.

To do that you'll need a honkin motor and probably three of them. Fresh RR every night and the talent to achieve it. Takes a awful lot of laps to reach the level of some of USAC's drivers and of some of its teams have a notebook of decades to refer too on setups etc

This is a great event with the best open wheel teams and drivers, another 25 cars would not necessarily make it better. The intensity of the heats Sunday evening was something to see not to mention the King of the Hill. It is fine as is. The only disappointing thing for me the first three years is that the stands are not completely full. Instead of folks dreaming up new events and wishing to make changes it would be best to support Smackdown to ensure it continues. The crowd was good considering the weather but wish it was better, the O'Connors deserved it.

USAC came up with the idea of "The Sprint Car Smackdown" They own it.

From the Kokomo Trib.

" {Jason]McCord went on to explain how his idea came to fruition.

“Like I said, we [USAC] put on a great show,” he explained. “Myself and Kirk Spridgeon were tossing around ideas and the Smackdown format came up..... Whenever we first came up with the format the next thing was getting on the phone and making some calls,” McCord stated. “So, I called up Reese [O’Connor, of the local track] and was expecting to have to work on him to get him on board. Within about a minute or two of talking to him about it, he was completely on board."

Technically that's true, but it's always good to have a sufficient amount of cars to eliminate a few others from transferring. Otherwise, your feature is often interrupted by the same car or cars spinning. 30-40 is probably optimal.

I don't care to attend a race that has 60 to 70 cars. I agree with Jerry that 30 - 40 cars is the optimum amount.
