For the parents out there that are concerned about their kids and drugs I cant think of any better alternative to drugs than racing. I read an article from the mother of a quarter midget racer written many years ago. In it she described how every kid was not as involved with the standard sports available for kids at the time and how hard it was for their family to find a sport or hobby that their child could excel at. This was written before drugs had became a problem. Well she went on to tell how they had been introduced to QM racing and about the great effect it had on her child. They had found a sport where their child did show interest and could excel at.

If you look at QM racing as a sport and hobby that the family can do together that was the intent of the sport. You may not want to progress any further. you may see your child as the next Jeff Gordon he did get his start racing in QM's at an early age. The values for fair play and how to win and how to loose with grace will follow your kid the rest of their lives. A kid that is hooked on racing and shows an interest in how to do it and how to do it right probably will have very little desire to try something as mundane as drugs.

If your kid decides to go further in racing "I said your Kid" not you. Then they will have learned something at a very early stage in their life that will make them a much better driver. The thing they learn about blocking and charging, giving the other racer racing room will be part of their character and second nature that should not go away as they grow older.

Just remember just like>>> DRUGS>>>Racing is very Addictive>>> to both kids and parents sometimes being addicted is not a bad thing. Don't get carried away.

This would also be a great chance for hard core race fans to pay it forward. I will be in contact with TQ97 and the mini indy group to sponsor a few of these kids to experience racing. Who knows, a kid on April 19 sitting in their first race car could end up in Victory Lane at the Indy 500 in 20 years.

Harf

sometimes my memory fades a little bit, BUT it would be kinda of fun if we could come up with a bunch of drivers that had started off in Quarter midgets. We got that one kid that didn't win the Indy 500 but has won the 400 several times by the name of Gordon. Then we have all the Carter kids, Poncho Dana Dane and Cole, Then we got Ed Carpenter, Dave Darland, the Hines bros Jim and little bro Tracy. The list goes on and on. How about some help you guys? That Danny Smith kid that raced with the outlaws?
