You got that right, Casey. With Sprint Week mere weeks away, us travelers kinda hope that if it is going to rain, it will be this month rather than next. Or late July into August. Purely selfish, I know; but I am that way.

That said, we weathered a drought down here last year.

Perris is also a desert track, and tacky for weekly shows. Even did a pretty good job with the Nationals when there were 50 plus cars on the track. Track preps an art, some get it some don't and some days only God could keep moisture in it. I agree that we should just be happy we have so many tracks running that we can complain about! Southern California had 20+ million people and only three tracks running much and still couldn't fill the stands.

Im not complaining or complimenting, but this is a fact, other than Tri-State i have yet to see a disc at a race track in action. You can have what ever surface you want if you have the time to tend to it like a garden... Most promoters are trying to keep these tracks open for business by working on other things during the week, or like Spiker adding a different night, by the way Spiker has done a great job turning Pville around i think.

It is just like the cars, the race is won in the garage.
The track prep is made during the week for a good race weekend.

DL Savings sucks and now i hear they are trying to switch to central time, all the time? is this just a rumor, i prefered eastern time like when i first moved here.

In regards to the tracks out West, Cory Kruseman said it best during an interview a few years ago when asked about the difference between the Midwest dirt tracks and the Western dirt tracks. He said, and I paraphrase, "it is common for the tracks out West to be tackier following the feature than the Midwestern tracks are after qualifying".

Can't remember where he said this but it's been my experience at Perris & Manzy that he's right.

Out west we would wheel pack for about 20 to 30 minutes. Then when we hot lapped, the track would be greasy for the 1st and 2nd hot lap session. The 1st hot lap group would be the slowest. Here, the 1st hot lap session is the quickest, the track is race ready when we push off to get heat in the engines. Kokomo is usually pretty good and look what they do. Wheel pack and the 1st qualifying group is usually the slowest. End of the night, that track is usually as good as any. I agree, some very good racing is on slick tracks and I know we fight daylight savings. But I raced at Manzy is July and Aug with no humidity and remember leaving the track after midnight, and it was still 100 degrees.

How bout it cshu....isn't/wasn't Keith an avid Horseman??...mabe there is the "Magic" in the Mud!!...didn't the track surface kinda smell alittle like a horse barn!!...Hmmmm'...that kinda Magic Mud??!!...JMO!!.let the $@#t fly now!!............

I sure don't know anything about prepping a dirt track, but I do remember getting to PA early in the AM and seeing the track looking like it had been plowed, not disked. That is, it had actually been turned over, and it appeared to have been cut at least 8-12 inches deep. I haven't seen a track like that for years.
