WEDDING BELLS AT THE BUDWEISER OVAL NATIONALS!

(NOVEMBER 2, 2010, PERRIS, CA) Something will happen for the first time in the 15-year history of the Budweiser Oval Nationals this Friday night. During one of the breaks in the racing action a couple is going to get married. Carlon Bethal and Clarice Mullen of Wichita Falls, Kansas will become the first couple to exchange their vows at the Oval Nationals.

The couple will fly into John Wayne Airport in Orange County Friday morning, pick up their wedding license and then head to The PAS for a great night of racing and to get hitched.

Bethal, a native of Chillicothe, Ohio, has been a lifelong race fan and The PAS will be the 103rd track he has visited. At one of those tracks in 2009, he met Mullen. It was the Knoxville Nationals in Knoxville, Iowa. Earlier this year, Bethal moved to Wichita. “I moved to Wichita to be with her,” he said by phone on Monday afternoon. “She is a big race fan and we are looking forward to getting married and watching the race this weekend.”

When told the attire of most of the attendees in the grandstands will be casual and mostly racing t-shirts, Bethal laughed and said, “That will be perfect.”

Chaplain David Cochran will perform the service for the couple.

Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian is happy the couple is getting married at The PAS during the Oval Nationals. “We are pleased that they are getting married with us at the race track,” he said. “It is not the first wedding at the track, but it is the first one at the Oval Nationals. That is pretty cool.”

Spectator gates will open at 4:00 PM for the preliminary nights on Thursday and Friday and at 3:00 PM for the Saturday finals.

Sources indicated last week that this was possible. Now it's fact because it's on the internet. I believe I will "witness" this in person.

Congratulations to buddy Carlon Bethel and his new bride to be. You won't find a bigger race fan and supporter than Carlon. Good wishes on many happy years of race chasing for you both.

Congratulations to the Newly Weds to be...

You would think Tyler Walker would have some pull out in California to hitch a ride with someone..That would make things just a little more interesting...

You know I used to think the same way because he used to run non-wing, but I am beginning to think he doesn't want to take the risk of running the traditional sprints. JMO.

I watched Tyler run Williams Grove all summer. So I don't know if running a non-wing sprint would be a smart business/health decision. He is a gasser..

Since my feet will be planted on solid ground tomorrow, I hope everyone headed to The PAS, has a safe flight and a GREAT time..........:2:
