22nd ANNUAL USAC "INDIANA SPRINT WEEK" ON TAP THIS FRIDAY NIGHT JULY 17TH; MMSA MINI SPRINTS JOIN THE ACTION
By: Chris Nunn

Bloomington, IN - July 12, 2009- A summer tradition continues for the 22nd straight year, as the USAC National Sprint Cars roll into town for the annual running of "Indiana Sprint Week" presented by Indiana Stoneworks Inc. of Bedford, IN. Fans and drivers from all over the United States and even outside of the country converge on the state of Indiana every year for this occurrence. The parking lots will be full of campers, cookouts, gatherings, games, and music, resembling a festival atmosphere before the races. Once hot laps begin, it is a different story, as things turn serious with drivers competing to win the prestigious title of "Indiana Sprint Week" champion. USAC "Indiana Sprint Week" began at the Lawrenceburg Speedway on Friday night, July 10th, with Dave Darland scoring the victory over Bryan Clauson. The series moved to Gas City I69 Speedway on Saturday night, July 11th, with Levi Jones taking the win over another runner up finish from Clauson. Sunday nights event at Kokomo on July 12th, saw Chad Boat claim the win over Clauson, who finished second for the third straight race. At press time, Clauson currenly leads the "Indiana Sprint Week" points standings with 201 points over Boat with 186. Jones sits in third with 177 points. Blake Fitzpatrick and Darland complete the top five. Joining the USAC National Sprint cars on Friday night will be the Midwest Mini Sprint Association (MMSA). The MMSA is a STOCK 1,000cc, upright, winged touring class with provision for 600cc cars to participate, and are encouraged to do so with performance bonuses. The MMSA will be the sole support class for both USAC National Sprint Car events this season on the Bloomington Speedway schedule. The race this Friday will pay $1,000 to win for the MMSA Mini Sprints. Lynn Ambrose currently leads the MMSA points standings over Scott Bradley and Colin Ambrose coming into this Friday nights event.

In previous action on July 10th, Brent Turner picked up the victory in the UMRA TQ Midget feature event over Oogie Goff, Terry Goff, Ron Combs and Brandon Gray. Kent Robinson claimed his fifth victory of the season in the O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modified division over John DeMoss, Clint DeMoss, Josh Eads, and Jacoby Hines. Lee Hobbs won the Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock feature event, his second on the season, over Steve Peeden, Clayton Perry, Troy Clark, and Greg Amick. The Hornet division made their first ever appearance at Bloomington Speedway with Troy Clark picking up the win over T.J. Garris

Since rules for the Indiana Sprint Week dictate that drivers must be 16 years of age and over, points will not be awarded towards the 2009 Bloomington Speedway Safety-Kleen Sprint Car series standings. However, the current standings see Brady Short continue to hold a 15 point advantage over Jeff Bland, Jr.. Ethan Barrow, Ty Deckard, and Scott Hampton remain third, fourth, and fifth respectively. Kent Robinson holds the lead in the O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modified standings by 21 points over Clint DeMoss. Josh Eads, John DeMoss, and Matt Bex complete the top five. The Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock points standings remain the closest, as three points separate the top three. Brad Cummings currently leads the field by one point over Clayton Perry. Troy Clark is in third just three points behind Cummings. Lee Hobbs and Jack Frye complete the top five.

Pit gates open at 3:30p.m., Grandstands 4:30p.m., Hotlaps at 6:30p.m., Racing at 7:30p.m. Kids 12 and under FREE with paid adult.

Chis or somebody. I sure hope someone can do updates. I would certainly apreciate it and would make it if I could. Down to three vacation days left. Ones for a family function, the other two are for the USAC/MSCS back to back burg nights. Visited Bloom for the Jul 3rd race for great racing as always at Bloom
