Western Springs Speedway kicks off $100,000 National Midget Car Series
The first round of the newly formed National Midget Car Series (NMCS) fires up this Saturday night November 1st at the World Famous Western Springs Speedway. With the support of Springs Promotions Ltd the highly anticipated 12 Round Series kicks into action with New Zealand’s top drivers on show. Samsung NZ and Century Batteries have come on board to support the New Concept in its first year.
Current New Zealand Champion Shaun Insley leads the field into battle with NZ2 Bill Clarkson and an all-star cast ready to assume hostilities. Back from another successful stint in the USA is superstar Michael Pickens. The young charger Brad Mosen is expected to take yet another step forward in his battles from last season with Pickens.
The always-spectacular Shayne Alach will again have the fans on the edge of their seats with his no holds barred, hold your breath style of driving. The wily veteran Graham Standring will be fired up after winning his 99th career feature Event at Stratford Speedway last week and will do whatever it takes to make his 100th win a night to remember.
5 times NZ Midget Champ Michael Kendall aims up for another crack at the big title races this season, as does former two times TQ Champion Lance Beale. Scott Buckley will be looking to exercise the demons that got him oh so close to title honours last year.
Another former NZ Champion Carl Worboys hits the dirt with a return to a Beast powered Mopar and is sure to make his presence felt.
Wayne “Grengo” Green is out to make his last season a memorable one and Michael Brunt, David Gick, Mark Mullins, Alvin Cobb, Andrew Stewart, and Chris McCutcheon aim to provide stiff competition. Mark Oudney returns to the Midget Car ranks after a 4-year layoff.
Former TQ Star Angus McLeod makes his Springs Midget Car debut in the highly innovative V8 Kawasaki powered engine built by Simon Londgill. American star Davey Ray will take over the reins of this car in the International Midget Car Series.
F2 Midget standout Nick James steps up to the full Midgets to follow in the famous footsteps of his Father, two-time NZ Champion Eddie “ Cannon” James.
