8 Eight days until the 60th running of the Payless Little 500. 8 years ago in 2000 Dave Steele sped to the pole with a time of 45.070 seconds for the four lap run. Tony Elliott and Eric Gordon rounded out the front row. Steele dominated and looked to have the race in the bag. But with less than three laps to go Steele faded and Jim Childers went by to record his 3rd win in the event. Both Childers and 2nd place Chet Fillip completed 500 laps. Eric Gordon was 3rd, one lap down. Steele only completed one more lap after fading and was fourth, two laps down. Todd Kane (497 laps) completed the top five.

6 Six days until the 60th running of the Payless Little 500. 6 years ago in 2002 Dave Steele won the pole position with a four lap time of 45.526 seconds. Jay Drake and Jeff Bloom filled out the front row. Eric Gordon took over the lead on lap 168 and led the remaining 333 laps to score his 2nd straight Little 500 win and 4th overall. So dominant in this race was Gordon that only 2nd place Jonathan Vennard (497 laps) was within ten laps of him at the finish! Chet Fillip (489 laps) was 3rd with a pair of Tonys rounding out the top five. Tony Hunt and Tony Elliott both completed 488 laps to score 4th & 5th respectively.

5 Five days until the 60th running of the Payless Little 500. 5 years ago in 2003 David Steele won his fourth pole for the Little 500 and second in a row with a time of 44.964 seconds for the four lap run. Eric Gordon and Tony Hunt completed the front row. Eric Gordon led laps 1 through 69, lap 173, and then took the lead for the last time on lap 349 and led the remaining distance to score his 5th win in the classic and third in a row. He led a total of 222 of the 500 laps. In the last six Little 5's Gordon had amassed an enviable record of 4 wins, a 2nd, and a 3rd. Tony Hunt (499 laps) was second, Michael Lewis (496 laps) 3rd, Gary Fedewa (494 laps) 4th, and Jason McCord (494 laps) 5th. It was a caution plaqued event that took nearly three hours to complete.

4 Four days until the 60th running of the Payless Little 500. 4 years ago in 2004 Dave Steele won his third straight pole position and fifth overall with a four lap time of 44.831 seconds. Levi Jones and Cory Kruseman completed the front row. Levi would lead the first 152 laps. Steele, Michael Lewis, Gary Fedewa, and Brian Tyler would also have turns at the point. But, in the end, Eric Gordon once again had them all covered as he took the lead from Michael Lewis on lap 281 and led the remaining 220 laps to score his 4th consecutive win and 6th overall in the Little 500. Gordon led three times for a total of 242 laps to edge Aaron Pierce who also completed the 500 lap distance. Tony Hunt (499 laps) was 3rd, Jason McCord (498 laps) 4th, and Gary Fedewa (497 laps) rounded out the top five.

1 One day until the 60th running of the Payless Little 500. 1 year ago in 2007 Donnie Adams sped to the pole with a time of 45.699 seconds for the four laps. Ageless veteran Jeff Bloom and Tim Barber completed the front row. Now long established as the best ever in this race Eric Gordon led twice for 296 laps and raced to his incredible 8th win in the Little 500. Aaron Pierce completed 499 laps to finish second. Billy Puterbaugh Jr. (497 laps), Jeff Bloom (497 laps), and Tim Barber (496 laps) completed the top five. As we head into tomorrow night's race there are many stories that deserve watching. Can pole sitter Doug Heveron go out a winner? Can Eric Gordon add to his already unbelievable total of wins in the Little 5? Will Tony Elliott finally enter victory lane in this race? Can Jeff Bloom get another win? We'll find out Saturday night. In the meantime read Dave Argabright's wonderful story on the Little 500 in this week's NSSN. It has attached a photo of action from the 1st Little 500 in 1949 when roadsters comprised the field. I hope you've enjoyed the countdown as much as I have enjoyed doing it. See you Saturday!:thumb

Anybody know where Tray House is today? Have not seen him in several years, he was always fun to watch at the little 500
