2000 SILVER CROWN OWNER CHAMPION RIGGS PASSES AWAY

Shelbyville, Indiana (January 17, 2019)………Terry Riggs, whose Indiana Underground Construction car captured the 2000 USAC Silver Crown title, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2019.* He was 65 years old.

Riggs immaculate No. 37 champ car scored six Silver Crown victories between 1999 and 2006, all with USAC Triple Crown champion Tracy Hines behind the wheel.* Their first win together came in the 100-mile “Rocky Mountain Classic” on the pavement at Pikes Peak International Raceway.* They would be victorious twice more on the pavement the following year in 2000 at Nazareth (Pa.) Speedway and Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, Ill. en route to the series title.

In 2005, Hines and Riggs returned to victory lane on the dirt mile of the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds.* In 2006, they would take the “Tony Bettenhausen 100” at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, then grabbed a repeat victory in the “Ted Horn 100” at Du Quoin.

In 2009, Riggs would be a winner twice over on the USAC National Sprint Car trail with driver Josh Wise at Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway as well as the season finale at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif. with Jon Stanbrough.

In 2011, Terry’s son Casey would take the reins of the Indiana Underground sprinter, scoring a pair of USAC National Sprint Car victories at Brownstown Speedway during “Indiana Sprint Week” and in the “Haubstadt Hustler” at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind.

In recent years, Riggs and the Indiana Underground sponsorship were involved with Michael Dutcher Racing’s team in USAC National Sprint Car competition.

Visitation will be from 2-5pm on Sunday, January 20, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, located at 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, Ind. with a vigil at 5pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am Monday, January 21, at St Joseph Catholic Church, located at 125 E. Broadway St. in Shelbyville. *Interment will be at St Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Shelbyville.
