Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget Series Returns For Back to Back Events on July 26 & August 2

After rainouts and track construction brought the early Midget season to a screeching halt, the Montpelier Motor Speedway, now in their third season of supporting Midget drivers and car owners, will host back to back weekends of Midget racing (July 26 and August 2). The series' schedule and competition will heat up for the remainder of the season with 7 different events scheduled through early October (July 26, August 2, August 30, September 13, September 20, September 27, and October 11) heading towards the culmination of a series champion. The Leaders Edge of Indianapolis is the presenting title sponsor for the Midget series.

The event will feature the Montpelier’s Midget Series which features full size Midgets and power plants and allows a platform for other engines including Focus, Ecotech, and Motorcycle powered entries to compete utilizing an unlimited weight break and additional tire width. The Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget Series features an open tire brand and compound rule. Watson Racing is sponsoring a $50 cash award for the highest finisher powered by Focus, Ecotech, or Motorcycle power plants.

2012 Midget Series Champion, Lynsey Liguori (Liguori #6RR), won the opening night program in a slug fest with Tate Martz (Steele #2), Nick Lucas (#10 Moore), and Isaac Chapple (Chapple #52). Martz led the first 19 circuits while enduring heavy pressure from Lucas, Liguori, and Chapple. The heavy battle continued off of the final corner of the feature with Liguori grabbing the lead by inches from the trio at the finish line. With the win, Ligouri became just the 2nd repeat winner in the history of the series joining Shane Hollingsworth as the only other repeat winner.

General Admission will be a great value for fans at only $12 with Kids (12 and Under) - FREE!

There is a one time fee of $20 for your competitors license(Once this is paid you are good for the entire season with no additional fees, entry fees, etc...). 100% of this is paid back to drivers through the points fund.

We have been working on the transponder system, but we have not used it. I don't anticipate it being used for this race. We would love to have your support.

The 97 is back from Racer's Edge with new nerf spuds, the oil leak is fixed (fingers crossed) and the motor is plugged in; tomorrow we'll button her back up and Saturday we'll be representing the Chain Gang at the home of the best Midget series in the state.

Congratulations to Justin Peck for picking up his first dirt Midget win at the Montpelier Motor Speedway! Justin became the 13th different winner in the history of the series. Martz, Gehrke, Berryhill, and Cole Custer rounded out the top 5 on a smooth and very hammer down track. We will have full results and photos on our website www.MontpelierMotorSpeedway.com tomorrow.

Thanks to all of the teams and fans that supported us tonight. We appreciate these family teams taking a risk and traveling to race with us with the iffy weather and forecast. We were determined to get the show in and get the Midgets back on our track again.

A big thank you to Harold and everyone at Montpelier for a perfect racetrack on a challenging night; "smooth and hammer down" only begins to describe the quality of the racing surface. Unfortunately I was only able to truly enjoy it for a couple of laps in my heat before the top end of the spark and/or fuel curve on the Indiana Chain Gang "Yellow Zonker" #97 slowly began to dissipate, and I faded to a distant 7th. Just before that I actually thought I had the drive off the inside of 4 to make a run at Corey Bedwell, who had made the tow following a rainout at Waynesfield to take the wing off for the first time; it was good to feel competitive, even if it was only for a couple of seconds. Ah well - baby steps. Good to see Tyler Kendall out there also representing the Chained Brotherhood. Let's see more sprocketheads out there next week! Both of those guys told me that they had a lot more fun running non-wing, and who am I to argue?
