Why is it so few midgets are 4 bar, if any?
Does anyone build a 4 bar midget?
What is the advantage to popular current setup?

Thank you, I'd forgotten that. Was watching 2016 Chilli bowl over the weekend and didn't see any visible 4 bar midgets.

Is there a performance difference between coils & bars?

Personal preference. Coils supposed to react a little quicker. Bacon runs a 4 bar beast and is always fast.

I always referred to it as "the dog turd" effect, it's what monkeys see and monkeys do, I still prefer a 4 bar car, in my humble opinion it is easier to setup, and a load cheaper to repair, as far as how quick one acts compared to the other, you can use hollow bars, which have a lot quicker action, than a std solid bar, I like to run one of each across the rear, as well as the front. Ah yes, I'm familiar with, "Monkey See-Monkey Do" never been a fan of it.

I would think shocks would have more to say in how fast one or the other reacts.

That does sound like a nice ride. I'm new to the sprint world, this is my first year keeping up with things after 30 years in the DLM world. I had originally considered trying to get a "Budget Non-wing Sprint" class started, but then I came across the "Southern States D2" midget tour and it runs all around my house and makes more sense to do that. Since Sprints are mainly 4 bar I thought it better to learn with similar type setups on a 4 bar midget, that and they seem easier to set up. In the next 2 years me and my wife plan to leave Georgia and move to a more sprint friendly state like MO or INDY or TX, maybe even western TN, we'll see.

Thanks.

I always find the torsion front vs. coil front an interesting one. Neither is better, it really comes down to preference. I have always preferred coil over, mainly because that is most familiar to me. I guess one could ask why there are not many coil front sprint cars, not long ago they were very common. When my youngest son started running a micro I made sure to get a coil front car due to preference. At the time, we were the only coil front micro in our area, everyone was running 4 bar cars. Some told us we will never be competitive with a coil car, now there are many running coil front cars.

The only 4 bar car we have run was our nonwing sprint car. I didnt really find alot of difference to be honest. Whether coil or torsion, it still comes down to understanding how, where, and when the weight transfers.
