USA Goes Topless with First ASCS Canyon Card of 2009!

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (June 22, 2009) – Race fans at Tucson's USA Raceway have been treated to some of the finest winged Sprint Car racing in the nation this season in the form of the ASCS Southwest Region.

Now they're in for a change of pace this Saturday night, as the wingless stars of the Discount Tire Co. ASCS Canyon Region take to the 3/8-mile USA Raceway clay oval for the first time in 2009.

Some of the faces and names will remain the same, even if they are in rides differing from their winged machines. Southwest winged contenders Charles Davis, Jr., Mike Martin and Ronnie Clark each rank among the top in the rugged wingless Canyon Region competition as well.

In fact, on the strength of two wins in the initial four events of the season, "Chargin" Charles Davis, Jr., is atop the ASCS Canyon point charts in his pursuit of a first ASCS crown.

Buckeye's Davis is out to a 36-point lead over Phoenix shoe R.J. Johnson, with Goodyear's Nathan High just another two markers back in third. Gilbert's Andrew Reinbold enters Saturday's action ranked fourth, with Stockton, California's Johnathon Henry rounding out the current top five

The balance of the current top ten in ASCS Canyon Region points includes Tucson's Ronnie Clark, Laveen's Stevie Sussex, Yuma's Mike Martin, Phoenix' Bruce St. James and Bryan Swinehart.

Saturday's Discount Tire Co. ASCS Canyon Region action at USA Raceway is slated to go green at 7:00 p.m.

The 3/8-mile USA Raceway clay oval is located east of Tucson off I-10 Exit 268, then 1.6 mile south on Craycroft Road, which turns into Los Reales. For more information, contact the track at 520-574-8515.

The Discount Tire Co. ASCS Canyon Region is currently slated for eleven nights of competition throughout Arizona and New Mexico in 2009.

The American Sprint Car Series, in its 18th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing events, brings the best of Sprint Car racing to nearly 100 different tracks throughout 25 states and Canada in 2009. Anchored by the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series presented by K&N Filters, ASCS also consists of a dozen different Regions throughout the nation.
