The World of Outlaws Sprint Cars are the best in the business when it comes to dirt track sprint car racing and Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports proved that they too can be part of the best just this past Friday at their home track of River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND. There were 30 drivers that showed up for the hopes of the $10,000 payout, but Mark had some other plans. Two of Mark’s sponsors, Big Trucks by Jimco and Right Choice Electric both out of Grand Forks, were going to each match that $10,000 if the number 13 was able to park the car in victory lane at the end of the night. That made the night worth $30,000 for Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports which brought much excitement to the team, the fans and all of the supporters.

Mark went out on the high banked 4/10ths clay oval for a 2 lap qualifying effort and laid down an 11.159 on his first lap which was fast enough to make the top twenty. About half way through the first lap, Mark had some severe vibrations coming from under the seat and then on the second lap the driveline broke on the Senske & Son Delta Oil #13 not allowing the second qualifying lap.

With huge efforts from the Lunstra/Dobmeier Team, they were able to get the driveline fixed and ready to rock for the heat race. With Dobmeier’s unfortunate qualifying session, he started on the inside of row number 4 in the heat race. The Outlaw’s take the top five to transfer directly into the main event, so when the green flag dropped Mark knew he had to put the elbows up to make it to at least fifth. Throughout the short ten lap contest, Mark raced himself inside the transfer to guarantee a starting position for the attempt of the $30,000.

Dobmeier came from way back in 18th to finish 7th throughout the 40 lap main event to earn the KSE Race Products Hard Charger Award. “We had a couple cautions at the beginning that really helped us move forward,” says the River Cities Speedway veteran, “But, then towards the end we had a few cautions that kind of hurt. We would be right there ready to take another spot and then the yellow flag would fly. Those cautions can work both ways sometimes. I have to thank the guys’. They worked really hard and we are very happy to finish where we did since we kind of got behind the eight ball at the beginning of the night with the qualifying.”

Mark still has a chance at the $30,000 payout with the help of Big Trucks by Jimco and Right Choice Electric when the Outlaws come back to town on the 21st of August. “We really look forward to each and every time we race against these guys’, explains Mark, “We have a pretty good record racing with the Outlaws and it is always fun for our sponsors and our fans when we get this Senske & Son Delta Oil #13 on the track with the best.”

After the Outlaw show in Grand Forks, the Lunstra/Dobmeier Team decided to go to Knoxville instead of the Fargo, ND Outlaw show to keep the team in the points battle. Mark qualified 4th quick with a 15.481 just 1.7 tenths off the leader to start out the night on the legendary half-mile. Dobmeier started 5th in the heat race and made his way up to the number 2 spot right behind Albuquerque native, Johnny Herrera.

Starting 3rd in the main and getting jumbled up on the start, Mark made it back up to fifth and then with only 7 laps to go, the motor decided to explode on the front stretch causing an unfortunate end to the evening. That was the first DNF of the season for Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports, but the team will be ready to go for this coming Friday’s River Cities Speedway weekly show followed by another World of Outlaw event at Knoxville Raceway.
