USAC MIDGET WINNING CAR OWNER MARGARET OWEN PASSES

Speedway, Indiana (December 31, 2018)………Margaret Owen, one of USAC Midget racing's pioneers as one of the few female car owners, and even rarer, as a USAC National Midget winning car owner, has passed away.

Owen, of Indianapolis, Ind., reached USAC National Midget victory lane in 2004 on the dirt at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill. with driver Travis Miniea.* It was a spectacular race in which Miniea passed Bobby East on the final lap to score the lone series victory for both himself as a driver and Owen as an owner.

Owen appeared in the USAC National Midget Car Entrant standings annually between 1998 and 2009, finishing a career-high ninth in the points in 2004.* Her familiar No. 28 also finished 34th in 1998, 35th in 1999, 21st in 2000, 18th in 2001, 22nd in 2002, 29th in 2003, 17th in 2005, 16th in 2006, 35th in 2007, 47th in 2008 and 37th in 2009.

In 1999, Owen earned her first career USAC win as a car owner in Regional Midget action on at the Indianapolis Speedrome with driver A.J. Davis.* Owen midgets also competed with success in NAMARS, ARCA and CORA, with top drivers Billy Mehner, Les Scott and Joe Liguori among others.

USAC sends its condolences to Owen’s family and friends.
