I am doing some research and in particular I am searching for any information related to the 1970 Wabash Valley Fair races/Vigo County Fairgrounds/Terre Haute Action Track races. Was there a race called the "250 Classic"..? Tony Hulman Classic started in 1971. Any information is appreciated. Thanks

Could it have been a USAC stock car race? I know the THAT ran USAC stock cars some in the late 60’s thru the early 70’s.

The first sprint car race at Terre Haute in 1970 was in June. There was both a USAC sprint car race and a USAC midget race (the following Wednesday evening) during the Vigo County Fair. In September there was another USAC sprint car race followed two weeks later by the Hut Hundred midget race. There were no other races held there in 1970. Here's a link showing the racing at Terre Haute; there are some gaps but everything from 1970 is listed.

My records indicate I attended all the events listed in the link except September 27. I went to Haubstadt that day. I don’t know why I skipped the Hut 100.
1970 was the first year I started keeping records and I often didn’t put a lot of details down

Is it possible on 8/9/1970 the day Dick Tobias won his 1st USAC sprint race at Terre Haute, that Russ Ruppert was given a trophy as being the car owner? Does anyone have any victory lane pictures or recollection? I have seen JOHN MAHONEYS and Tobias is in photos with a trophy cup. Im looking for information on a 4ft tall trophy from 1970.

Have you tried contacting Richie Tobias in PA? Someone in the family should be able to help you out. I think Richie is on this site sometimes, pretty sure you can find him on FB.
