BOSS Prepares for Historic Doubleheader with $5k Hensel Memorial

Now into it's fifth full season, the Rick's Truck & Equipment BOSS tour has seen many exciting events through the years. However, this upcoming weekend doubleheader will undoubtedly be the largest events in series history. Saturday night, May 28th the tour will make its annual pilgrimage to Mercer Raceway Park in Western Pennsylvania for a regular show. Then, on Sunday, May 29th, the 4th annual Mike Hensel Memorial event at Fremont Speedway will pay $5,000 to the winner with $333 guaranteed to start and an unheard of $200 guaranteed to all B-Main participants who fail to make the main event!

In the 4 previous Mercer events, Brandon Spithaler has won twice. Spithaler will lead the charge into Mercer along with 17 year old Cooper Clouse who picked up the opening round win at Fremont on May 7th. Defending champion Shawn Westerfeld heads up a trio of past tour champions that also includes Mike Miller and Dustin Smith, who will be searching to make history by becoming the first repeat tour champs.

Past winners of Sunday's Hensel Memorial have ALL been California natives. In 2013 it was Rocklin, California driver Robert Ballou who picked up the original $3,300 to win payday. In 2014 it grew to the present $5,000 to win and Kingsburg, California driver Kody Swanson roared to the win. One year ago, it was San Jose, California's Thomas Meseraull's turn after flipping at the end of his heat race, T-Mez stormed back to win the big money in the 33 lap main event.

The 2016 version of the Hensel Memorial remains $5,000 to win with $2,000 for second and $1,200 for third. The 24 car / 33 lap A-Main will guarantee $333 to start the main event and an unprecedented $200 to all B-Main starters who do not make the main. As always, a $100 minimum is guaranteed to every car that attempts to compete in the event, even if you fail to start a heat race!

Also new for this year's Hensel Memorial will be the Superior Bearing - Dash for Cash! A $500 purse paying $200 to the winner will set the A-Main lineup. After the pill draw, cars will be grouped into heat races and then will time trial in their individual groups. Depending on car count, 5 or 6 cars will be inverted in each heat with 3 or 4 cars transferring to the main event. The top 2 finishers in each heat race will earn their way into the dash. The balance of the A-Main and B-Main lineups will be determined by heat race finishes.

The dash line-up will be determined by the fan favorite "revenge" draw format. Each heat race winner will go first and the number they draw, they MUST give it to another driver. Once a number is given, it cannot be passed on. Once the lineup is set, the dash will be the number of laps that there are cars in the event. This will give teams a chance to improve their positions for the run at $5,000 in the 33 lap A-Main.

Make plans to join us for this exciting weekend of racing. Gates will open at 4 pm both days. Pit passes are $30 at Mercer and $35 at Fremont. Fuel will be available at both tracks. Mufflers are NOT required at Mercer, however, on Sunday at Fremont, ALL competing cars must have mufflers OR muffler inserts. All cars WILL BE CHECKED! Transponder rental fee will be $5 or you can use your own (must be the yellow).

General admission for each night is as follows: Mercer - Adults $15 with seniors (60+) just $13. Students (9-15) are just $7. Children 8 and under are free. There are also family passes available that gets 2 adults and up to 4 kids in for just $32. For more information on Mercer, please visit their website at www.mercerracewaypark.com At Fremont Speedway on Sunday, Adult general admission is $20 with seniors admitted for $18. Students ages 11-16 are $12. For more information on Fremont Speedway, please visit their site at www.fremontohspeedway.com

The official hotel of the weekend is the West Middlesex, PA - Park Inn by Raddison. it is located right off I-80 at the Sharon exit. Rooms are $91 per night if you ask for the BOSS Racer's rate. Fans are also encouraged to use the host hotel which does have a bar and restaurant and plenty of parking. Phone 724-528-2501 for reservations and rooms can be cancelled up until 4 pm on Saturday at no charge.

To Clarify - the A-Main pays $333 to start at the Hensel Memorial at Fremont on Sunday.

All cars that start in a B-Main on Sunday are guaranteed $200

As always, BOSS guarantees $100 minimum to every car that makes an honest attempt to compete. So even cars who break in hot laps or a heat race - you STILL get paid $100. Every BOSS event maintains this policy and always has!

Weather forecast keeps looking better!

Shane Cottle led early. Cottle & Swanson battled back & forth during the middle of the race and Swanson controlled the end.
