Easy explanation. It’s a typo as I forgot to change that part of the results from the race at Merced on Wednesday night. Axsom was indeed the hard charger at Ventura.

Am I the only one that thinks this race would have been much better had the track not taken rubber? Was this due in part to the sprint cars running also? I have to believe so. Turkey Night is such a prestigious race and in my humble opinion deserves to be a stand alone midget event.

AZ, you’re not wrong. I saw the rubber coming all the way from Gary Indiana, in the race’s earlier in the night. It had to be a tough decision for the people in charge as to how to address the situation on what was already a long day at the track. It basically turned it into less than a 50 lapper. If they took the necessary steps to prevent the track going away it probably would’ve added more than an hour to the show. My vote is to take Turkey Night to Perris where it give much more of a proper tribute to its existence at Ascot. Now, cue the part why midgets don’t run on a big half mile anymore

Sprint cars ran there last few years during Turkey night and the track was fine. Last year was one of the best surfaces you will see for a midget. Epic battle between Grant and Thorson.

25MPH winds all weekend was the culprit not sprint cars.

You heard the answer in the post race interview. Wind. The wind picked up as the night went on. Wind will suck the moisture right out of a track, whether it’s nature’s trade-winds or the whirling, swirling tornado caused by a winged sprint car show.

And the quickest way to shut this event down is to move it to a 1/2 mile. It doesn’t matter how great fans think it would be. It doesn’t matter how in the old days, they used to… It’s a question of car owners and drivers agreeing to strap in and risk everything on those long straightaways.

I was at Ventura in 2021 and the track lasted all of 10 more laps than it did this year (it rubbered up and locked down at lap 50 that night as opposed to lap 40 Saturday night). Mitchell Moles passed Larson for 3rd right after the halfway break and it was only because Larson made a minor mistake getting off of #2 and opened the door. That was the only pass of any consequence from lap 50 on. And, there was no such winds at the 2021 race and it still rubbered up. Again, I was there and we drove over 2000 miles one way partially for this event and was extremely disappointed. I feel for those that made a similar effort to attend this year because it had the same disappointing result.
