The two vents in the top of the valve cover are actually ports for the air injection system to the exhaust ports, this is why you are getting all those big nifty backfires out of the exhaust pipe. Air is being sucked into the exhaust and mixing with unburned fuel and BAM. This shouldn't have any relationship to your problems. We being cheap take the covers off the top of the valve covers, take a little RTV silicone and inject in the 2 small holes under the reed valves and let the RTV set up. Just put enough in to go down in the hole about 1/2" or so, don't fill the exhaust ports up with RTV. We don't even put the reed valves or the covers back on the valve covers. The only vent we would use would be the one on the top of the tranny.

NOW back to your real problem. We have also been working with a guy up in Illinois with a 1000cc GSXR. His problem was very smiler to yours. If you are going to go racing you need to buy some tools or be able to pay someone that has tools to fix your problems. You need to get your hands on some Noid Lights> Infrared thermometer > and injector tester or simulator box. This thing activates the injectors just like the ECM does but it does this off of the car.

What this guy did was check his exhaust temp at the header pipes and he found #3 cylinder was not getting as hot as the others. (more than 200 degrees lower with an IR thermometer). Since he had fire he deducted that the injector was not injecting fuel to that cylinder. To check out his deduction he took the throttle bodies off the motor switched his top injectors with his bottom injectors and low and behold the thing took off and ran right. He was still lean on the top end because that one injector was not working but he was getting enough fuel that it ran much better. He is in the process of buying another set of injectors off of EBAY to get going and trying to clean or have his original injectors cleaned.

The stock injectors running on gasoline have microscopic holes in them. You should try to find a paper element with a filtering range of around 10 microns or so for gasoline. Larger than that (Stainless mesh types) and you stand a good chance of clogging an injector. These paper filters are also prone to clogging because of water so you probably need a spare element also and change them at least once a season.. http://aeromotiveinc.com/products-pa...ment-elements/ http://aeromotiveinc.com/products-pa...ilters/page/2/

The important thing to tell your self during all this is "BOY I AM SURE HAVING FUN" and you are learning all the time. Keep us posted nothing like trying to help a guy fix something then he fixes it and keeps it to himself. It will probably be something really simple and stupid but those are the things we want to be aware of.

Thank you everyone for your help! I got the motor issues all figured out after a call from Zach Boden who had the same issue. Thanks Zach. The car ran awesome, right until it got "Punted" off turn 3 and did some talented "aerial gymnastics". Now I have other issues, axles, bird cage, steering box, torsion arms, shocks, wing, etc. but they are just bolt on items and am tickled to have the car running good.
Thanks to all for your help, this is a great community!

I think old 3D is on a one way street and not looking back.

I would suggest a Googal search for Zach Boden and trying to get a hold of him.

You might try a PM to 3d it might be a secret.
