Speaking of Eldora, I saw this evening the voice of the world of outlaws Johnny Gibson, one of the best and I certainly respect him, sent out a tweet about how much better the racing is since they changed the track. I strongly disagree. Not talking about dust, but I much preferred the old track banking. Your thoughts?

Mostly go to late model races there but have seen some sprint shows. It is not as on the edge around the top as it used to be, but it seems it produces a more even track. Guys can win races on the top or the bottom where in the old days it was more of an around the top & throw sliders kind of track. Awesome either way IMO. On the 100 lap late model shows there have been several times in recent years where the winner or a top 3 finisher comes from far back in the field & there is passing all over the place.

I like the old track . Not complaining bout nothing and I can't even tell you what I don't like but something seemed not right. Racing was good. Kids loved it so I'd do it again but I'm voting for old track prep.

However show moved through really fast so thumbs up for that

i've seen it all at Eldora. The racing today is the best it's ever been. i will admit watching Wolfgang, Sammy and Jac hot lap back in the old days was exciting. way up the bank and WIDE OPEN ! ! ! ! but, the old banking made it hard to pass and nearly impossible to run the bottom like they do now. my 1st trip to Eldora was the 1980 World 100 and it was really really hot and really really dusty so not allot has changed in that department. Can't wait for Saturday. should be a good one.

I’ll start by saying I’m only 25, so I never had the opportunity to see the old Eldora that’s so often mentioned here. Can someone please objectively explain to me what I missed? I’m genuinely curious because I always hear about the speed the cars carried on the old track. However, the track record was set in 2002 I believe, and many times over the past several years the record has nearly been broken. I know the track normally slicks off now for the feature, but the speed is still there early on judging by the numbers. Speaking of the track slicking off, it almost always creates great racing come feature time, wing or non wing cars. A lot of the time when people reminisce on here about eldora they concede the racing wasn’t as good because of the track prep but they loved the speed. However, as I noted above, the speed doesn’t seem to have gone anywhere? I’m just genuinely curious as to why the old track seems to be preferred when the racing has been so great in recent years, and it’s still very fast at least early on in the night. Is it partly nostalgia? I’ll concede the dust seems to be a bigger issue now than then, but overall the Big E has a lot going for it right now.

Good to hear from you 94, it’s been awhile. I guess you had to see it but I’ll try to explain a little of it. You first had to beat the track then worry about competition. In its prime I believe Eldora took a bigger “set” than any place else to do it right, which explains why the king won so much there. The only way you won on the bottom there you’re name had to be Bobby Allen, Donnie Krietz, or maybe Dale Blaney, notorious bottom feeders. If you want to give more people a chance to win then I can see why you would think it’s better. I prefer my Eldora with a little more requirement of bravery, and that my friends is what made the old Eldora better

I do want to make it clear that the Big E remains one of my favorite places on earth so I’m not bashing it. Just stating preference. Thanks to my dad loading us up in the ol ecnoline and driving us 4 hours one way to get there back in 75, or 76 and been there at least once every year since, I’ve got a pretty good sample size. Eldora is still great, but for me it was greater before

I personally think the track is better now. The fast way last night was on the top, but there were other competitive options. I prefer 2 or 3 grooves over slide jobs. Also there was dust last night, but not like we have seen in the past. I sat in the front row of the first stand in turn 1 and literally didn't get a speck of dust on me. Looked worse in turn 4, but you could still see. My biggest question is why didn't they do a 50/50 last night?
