After heavy rains throughout the week forced the postponement of the previous two Montpelier Motor Speedway 31st Annual Season Openers attempts, the 114 year old racing facility is ready to kick off the 2017 campaign this Saturday night, April 15th with a program featuring Midgets, UMP Modifieds, Super Streets, Thunder Cars, and FWD Compacts. The Montpelier Motor Speedway with the support of Midget owners and drivers across the Midwest have built a Midget series that boasts healthy Midget fields with plenty of star power and side by side racing. Logan Arnold was crowned the 2016 Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget series champion while open wheel standouts Shane Hollingsworth and Davey Ray continue to battle for the all-time Midget win leader at MMS.

The Montpelier’s Midget Series which features full size Midgets and unlimited power plants and allows a platform for other engines including Focus, Ecotech, and Motorcycle powered entries to compete utilizing an unlimited weight break and additional tire width. The Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget Series features an open tire brand and compound rule. The event will also pay USAC MWT points to members. The Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget Series is presented by the Leaders Edge of Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Montpelier Motor Speedway, which began racing in 1903 and hosted its first automobile race in 1915, is one of America’s oldest remaining racing facilities. While the east central Indiana ¼ mile clay oval has a historic past, the facility has seen many major modern upgrades the past four seasons including new restrooms and bleachers along with the addition of many safety features such as a new catch fence system along with a new front stretch wall, lighting system, transponder scoring, and corner runoff areas. The Montpelier Motor Speedway commonly competes weekly on Saturday Nights with its popular Modified and Stock Car divisions and is also the host to the popular Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget series. The Montpelier Motor Speedway serves as a host for USAC National Sprint Cars, USAC Indiana Midget Week, MSCS Sprint Cars, NRA Sprint Invaders, and BOSS Sprint Cars.

Yup. Know that. What about the other 32 cars?
Plus I'm sure some folks might be interested in the other divisions?

Good field of cars there but track was a bit of a farm field in the turns. we pulled off in the ump modified feature with about 8 laps left (#21c). 33/34 midgets & 37 modifieds. not sure on car count for other classes but there where 2 heats for them each.

Thanks to all the teams for their support. This is the new record car count for the MMS Midget Series. Now, with our friends at the Kokomo Speedway running our concept we think we can see even further growth of the series and cars.

The track conditions were rough for the feature as Nathan noted. We have been bombarded with rain as you probably saw with the fields full of water coming into Montpelier. On Friday, the track and pits were under water from a heavy rain early Friday morning not forecasted. It was all pumped and we could not get equipment or even the mower back there until late afternoon Friday. We appreciate everyone working with the parking and track.
