USAC NATIONAL CAR COUNTS RISE IN 2020

Speedway, Indiana (November 27, 2020)………All three of USAC’s National divisions saw increases in its average car count per race from the 2019 to the 2020 season.

The USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship saw the largest growth with 8.3 more cars per race in 2020 as compared to 2019.* The average count of 41.59 was the largest per race average in 16 years!* The 2004 average car count for the series was a smidge ahead of 2020 at 42.57.

The car count of 57 on this past summer’s Independence Night Bill Gardner Sprintacular at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Ind. was the highwater mark for the series in 2020, marking the largest for a USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car event since the Western World Championships at Arizona’s Manzanita Speedway in November of 2008.

Over the past 17 seasons, the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car division has averaged over 40 cars per race five times, and in the 2020, it was the first time that had occurred in 12 years, a mark last reached during the 2008 campaign.

The USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship also saw an increase in cars per event with 35.79 during the 2020 season, compared to 34.61 in 2019.* A season-high 54 cars and drivers signed in for the first night of November’s Merced Midget Madness at Merced (Calif.) Speedway.

In the USAC Silver Crown Champ Car Series, the story remained the same.* The average car count bumped up from 25.3 to 27 between 2019 and 2020.* A season-high 36 signed in for August’s renewal of the Hoosier Hundred at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis.

I"ll bet during Bill"s Sprintacular weekend, he was looking down grinning from ear to ear, with that kind of car count and crowd. Man miss my friend.
