USAC AND IMRA MIDGET SERIES JOIN FORCES FOR 2016 SEASON

*

The United States Auto Club (USAC) and the Engler Illinois Midget Racing Association (IMRA) have teamed up for the 2016 racing season to form one of the biggest production engine midget racing series in the Midwest.

*

The season consists of a 27-race schedule with the majority of the races split between two “home tracks” in Illinois and Iowa: Spoon River Speedway in Canton, Illinois and 34 Raceway in Burlington Iowa.* The season opening event takes place Saturday, April 9 at 34 Raceway with the season concluding at Spoon River on Saturday, September 24.

*

The series will also hold its first ever USAC/IMRA “Summer Sizzle Speedweek” July 21-24, kicking off the week with a two-day event at Farmer City Raceway on Thursday, July 21 and Friday, July 22 for the "Engler USAC/IMRA Nationals.” *The series will then move to 34 Raceway on Saturday, July 23rd and conclude on Sunday night, July 24th at Spoon River Speedway.* Special events have also been schedule throughout the season to bring several high-paying events including a $1500-to-win event at the end of the 2016 season.

*

IMRA has consistently gained participation with the relatively stock-based, 2.4-liter engine platform, thus eliminating the cost of high-dollar aftermarket parts and creating one of the most affordable grassroots midget racing series.* IMRA has seen steady growth over the last three years with more than 45 drivers competing in the series in 2015.

*

“This was a perfect fit for our series and our drivers," stated IMRA president Tracy Hull.* “What a huge boost for our series!”

*

Furthermore, the 2016 USAC IMRA champion will be honored at December’s USAC banquet in Indianapolis.

*

“What an honor it will be to have the USAC/IMRA Midget champion enter the USAC record books alongside some of the greatest open wheel drivers in history,” Hull said. *“We could not be happier with our decision to create an alliance with USAC and we are honored to be included.”

*

For more info on the USAC/IMRA Midget Series, including the 2016 rules and event schedule, please visit their Facebook page by searching “Illinois Midget Racing Association.”

Idk what those are...it sez "eliminating the cost of high-dollar aftermarket parts". No way they don't allow Engler F.I. (& other bolt-ons) in this series right??? Help me out with what is posted. Couldn't find it on FB. Will there be tech staff at all the races anyway?

The uses of electronic logic processors of any type to control any function of the race car suspension and/or any system for gathering continuous data from any function of the suspension are strictly prohibited. The use of electronic logic processors to record continuous data from the race car are limited to functions of approved ignition systems and wireless systems housed in a single unit, independent of any other device, and unable to transmit to or from any other device while on-track. (Examples of approved devices include onboard cameras, lap timers, etc.).
Traction Control is illegal.
Equalization:
As the Division II grows, it will attempt to equalize competition, we reserve the right to adjust the rules. When the current rules have been shown to favor a particular interpretation, or a certain make of engine, we will work to adjust the rules in as inexpensive way as possible, within a reasonable amount of time.
Any engines not covered by the preceding specifications must be submitted, in writing, for approval prior to entering competition.
Fuel
Pure methanol with no additives (top lube is ok) is required for all driveshaft driven cars. Methanol or gasoline is allowed for chain driven cars. No additives are allowed (top lube ok), including but not limited to, acetone, nitromethane, nitropropane, nitrous oxide, propylene oxide or any other oxygenating agents.
All fuel is subject to testing at any time. Any fuel that does not conform to DII standards, as administered at the track, will be considered illegal. The use of illegal fuel will result in disqualification.
Fuel Tanks
Fuel tanks must be carried on the centerline of the chassis and must be mounted behind the driver.
For driveshaft driven cars a conventional midget style tail tank and bladder meeting SFI specification 28.2 is required. Maximum capacity for fuel tanks of this design is twenty-seven (27) gallons.
For chain driven cars fuel tank meeting SFI specification 28.1 is required. This tank must not protrude beyond the rear most cross member of the chassis. Maximum capacity for fuel tanks of this design is five (5) gallons. Cars utilizing this style tank must use a tail tank cover resembling a traditional midget style tail.
There will be no minimum capacity of the fuel tank.
All fuel tanks must have a minimum of four mounts to the chassis.
Fuel tanks may not be mounted to the chassis utilizing any portion of the access plates or the nut plates bonded into the fuel bladder.
A protective cover may be used on the top of the tail tank providing it is no more than 9 inches in height, 12 inches in length and not wider than the top (head rest) of the tank.
Note: It is highly recommended that all chain drive cars run a fuel tank with bladder system meeting SFI specification 28.2. By 2017, all cars will be required to have the proper fuel tank and bladder system.

Jason

Tim Engler is a sponsor of the series. The question that any racer should ask them selves before getting involved in any type of racing is: "Just how much money am I willing and capable of investing in my race program to loose money on every race.

Racing is a very poor business to get into if you want to make any money. If not for sponsors in the Mega bucks department even the NASCAR guys couldn't make it just on what they won. If you own a prosperous business and like racing>>Racing is a very good way to spend your adverting dollars and all the time enjoy spending them. Or you can send money to some TV or Radio station or Uncle Sam, that is the question you need to ask.

Most guys running the auto engines will need some form of fuel injection and Engler has a lot of knowledge and experience building them.

Even with the one time expense of injectors and other addons this will still be hands down the most inexpensive form of open wheel racing out there including "Go Karts".

Honest Dad himself
