McKARNS’ THE NEW PROMOTERS AT ANGELL PARK

Sun Prairie, Wisconsin (February 22, 2021)………Angell Park Speedway officials announced today that they have reached a five-year promotional agreement with the McKarns family beginning with the 2021 race season at the 1/3-mile dirt oval, which will host the return of USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget racing on Sunday night, September 5 with a rain date (if needed) slated for the following evening on Monday, September 6.

The 43rd RPM Auto Racing Promoters of the Year, Gregg and Angie McKarns, through their GA Promotions, LLC, will continue the legacy of Angell Park, which first hosted Midget auto racing in 1936.

“We have enjoyed going to the races at Angell Park on Sunday nights as a family,” Angie said.* “Gregg started going there as a kid, and when the chance to promote races was presented, our interest was piqued immediately.* As owners and operators of nearby Madison International Speedway, as well as the ARCA Midwest Tour for asphalt super late models, we look forward to becoming part of the dirt racing community as well.* We have strong relationships with IRA, USAC, Badger and many of the sanctioning bodies in dirt racing, and we look forward to building upon those in the coming years.”

“After the rollercoaster of different directions that 2021 has started off with, Angell Park Speedway is both proud and excited to announce a confirmed partnership with GA Promotions,” Firemen’s Angell Park General Manager Erin Yeargin added.* “Gregg and Angie have shown their unwavering consistency and interest in Angell Park since the beginning of negotiations last fall.* We are confident that their knowledge and dedication will help grow Angell Park well into the future and ensure the Speedway continues to have its roots well planted in Sun Prairie.”

A 10-race schedule is being finalized for 2021 will be headlined by the return of the USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship on Labor Day Weekend, Sunday September 5, as well as the All Star Circuit of Champions on Sunday June 6, multiple visits by the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series and mainstays such as the Badger Midget Auto Racing Association and the Auto Meter Wisconsin wingLESS Sprints, which will continue their involvement at the Sun Prairie oval.

In late January, it was announced that SLS Promotions and Hans Lein had teamed up with the Sun Prairie Volunteer Fire Department to operate Angell Park for the 2021 season.* However, in the past week, that partnership was dissolved, with the McKarns family stepping in to take over the reins of the track and continue its legendary tradition.

A complete 2021 schedule of events for Angell Park is set to begin in mid-May will be released the first week in March.* For additional information visit www.angellpark.racing.* Angell Park Speedway is located at 315 Park Street in Sun Prairie, Wis.

It’s been six years since the series last made a visit to Angell Park, a thriller won by Rico Abreu on the final corner on the last lap.* The track has hosted 46 previous USAC National Midget events since Larry Rice’s victory in 1970 and can count many of the greatest individuals in the history of the sport among those who’ve won there, a list which includes 16 USAC National champions: Abreu, Rice, Bryan Clauson, Kevin Olson, Brad Kuhn, Christopher Bell, Bobby Olivero, Jeff Gordon, Jerry Coons Jr., Josh Wise, Levi Jones, Pancho Carter, Rich Vogler, Stevie Reeves, Tom Bigelow and Tracy Hines.

Bryan Clauson owns the most USAC National Midget victories at Angell Park with six, while additional multi-time winners include Kevin Olson (5), Brad Kuhn (3), Christopher Bell (3), Larry Rice (2) and Rico Abreu (2).

Great news that they have a five year agreement and it is with the promoters of Madison International. Anyone have the readers digest, family friendly version of what happened with the other promoters. I was excited about that group as well.

Per Dave Kallmann's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel story…”Angell Park covers 62 acres on the south side of Sun Prairie with woods, play fields, picnic areas and a banquet facility. It is owned and managed by the local volunteer fire department. McKarns’ company, GA Promotions, will control the racetrack and operate the concession stands while the fire department operates the beer stands through its liquor license.”
