I recently saw an ad for an old Atkins, or Adkins sprint car. Does anyone know where they were built, when, who built them, and did anyone ever do an good in one? Thank you.

They were built by Bob Adkins and Jim McQueen in Indy in the mid 80's.

I don't remember off hand if any drivers of note were in the cars or if the cars won any bigtime races.

Bob had ambitions to be a driver but didn't stick around long. McQueen was a very good wrench and worked for several teams in the Indy area, most notably Seibert Olds.

Jac haudenschild won a world of outlaw race in one back in the early 80`s. He was driving for a owner who has a car dealership. I think jim mcqueen build the engine, but i could be wrong. they were build in avon indiana. I think it was a mix of chassis builder.

The Adkins-McQueen cars came out of a shop located on Rockville Road. In the day a very lightweight chassis. Most notable Bowen Oldsmobile drivers in an Adkins-McQueen chassis were John Andretti, Kevin Thomas, Ray Morgan and Mark Cummins. The Haudenschild car was the McGonigal's Buick/Cadillac #37. There were several others who were in an Adkins-Mcqueen built chassis when they came out ... I'll try to go through some photos. It was the car to have at that time.

Andy Hillenburg also ran these cars.In the mid 80's at a WoO show at kokomo Hillenburg ran wheel to wheel with Kinser & i think Shuman for the lead until his engine let go.I also believe Rodney Ritter Jr. ran one of the Adkins cars for awhile.

I did talk with Mark Cummins and he did run that car twice at Eldora and also at Terre Haute. Said it was a Black #35
