BOSS Looking for Three-Peat at Atomic

Fans who have witnessed the last two events for the Rick's Trucks & Equipment BOSS sprint cars at Atomic Speedway would likely agree they have been 2 of the best finishes in the track's storied history. Last July, Todd Kane emerged victorious in a last lap that saw 3 different cars lead and a 3 car photo finish with one car flipping across the finish line. The return visit one month ago, found the BOSS outlaw drivers going 4 wide off turn 2 for the lead with just 2 laps remaining. Kingsburg, California driver Kody Swanson picked up the exciting win that once again brought the fans to their feet.

This Saturday, September 24th, the last true outlaw sprint cars will go for a "three-peat" of fantastic Atomic finishes. The championship hunt is on with just 3 events remaining and Shawn Westerfeld appeared to be on his way to making history by becoming the first repeat tour champion. However, last Sunday, The "Guilford Gasser" made contact with a rival at Millstream Speedway and got upside down in a big way! Runner-up, Cooper Clouse of Ohio City, Ohio scored a 2nd place finish to close ground. Meanwhile, Westerfeld already returned to action in his backup car and scored the win in an unsanctioned event this past Saturday night. So he appears to be back to full strength already.

Justin Owen of Harrison, Ohio and his teammate Michael Fischesser of Cincinnati are still in the championship chase holding down the 3-4 spots while Chad Wilson of Toledo is having a great season and still has an outside shot at the championship. Cody Gardner, Steve Little, Andy Feil, Aaron Middaugh and Stratton Briggs round out the top 10. In addition to these drivers, fans can expect to see other tour regulars like Bob McMillin, Joe Butera, Bobby Distel, Rick Holley, Carmen Perigo and Dustin Smith who led most of the race in August before contact with the wall caused his right rear tire to deflate in the final laps. Several other part time BOSS drivers including Matt Cooley and Adam Strausser have indicated their intentions to compete and several Atomic Speedway regulars look to give the wingless version a shot led by Josh Davis, Todd Kane and R.J. Perkins.

For the race fans, if the excitement of the BOSS non wing finishes aren't enough, this event provides the opportunity to see the weekly winged 410 sprint cars in action too. For die-hard sprint car fans, you get the best of both worlds plus AMRA modifieds, sport mods and after the racing, an enduro event will round out the card. General admission is just $15 with kids age 12 and under admitted free. Gates open at 4.

For teams competing Saturday, pit gates will open at 2 pm with pit passes $30 while kids pit passes age 12 and under are $15. NO MUFFLERS are required for this event. Methanol will be available at the track. There will be no transponder fee for this event. Registration will close at 5:45 with hot laps at 6 pm.

Old bone stock cars running 50 laps with no cautions, only reds for severe accident or blocked track.
