USAC and POWRi schedule conflicts

With some tracks already releasing their schedules, it is possible to get an early read on next year's schedule. USAC and POWRi are already scheduling against each other. May 4 and 5, the USAC midgets will be in Dodge City, Ks. On May 4, POWRi will be at Valley Speedway in Grain valley, Mo, and on May 5, POWRi will be at Lucas Oil Speeday in Wheatland, Mo.

With the state of midget racing and espcially with the state of midget racing in Missouri and Kansas, why these two groups are going after the same date in the same part of the country is beyond me.

I agree! The POWRi always schedules a race at Macon against the 4 Crown Nationals! They always schedule the weekend of midget week in Indiana too! Why would you schedule against Indiana Midget Week???? Sanctioning bodies need to work together not against eachother!

There will most likely still be 30+ cars at almost every POWRi race...

I've been told by an ARDC official that ARDC isn't booking against Midget Week so their cars can participate. Glad to see a club out there who has the better interest of competitors, fans and midget racing in general, instead of letting their inflated egos screw things up like USAC and POWERi have been doing to each other the last couple of years.

Well said nowingsjeff! PowrI & USAC need to work w/ each other so the fans, competitors, and etc. can be at all races if possible. Don't know what either organization has to prove by this. Settle your differences and lets have a 2012 season to remember.

What you are reading on this thread is the result of many years of runaway rules catering to the manufacturers of midget engines, parts and tires. Thus just a few pockets of midget racing that still exist. And a fight over the few cars that are left out there to compete or have the bucks to compete. Change the rules so you don't have to be a multi-millionaire to race and you'll see plenty of cars. For those that want to review what I have suggested as a solution to all of this, reread the IOW thread "More midget races cancelled" that probably set a new world's record for hits on IOW. Apparently the midget orgs are ignoring that thread and it's business as usual so don't look for anything to change in 2012. More of the same... low car counts and races being cancelled and more disgusted race fans. If Kevin Miller carried through with his $10-12,000 engine that he proposed almost three years ago ( and those engines are available right now), we would have plenty of cars and races to go round for everybody. Right now we are continuing on the merry path to the destruction of midget racing as we all know it. And BTW, don't get pie-eyed over the number of midgets that will show up in FantasyLand at Tulsa, Oklahoma. That race has absolutely nothing to do with the current state of midget racing. If anything that race is part of the problem of the overall climate of midget racing. ... people spending their entire racing budget on a race that they could never win.

Maybe thats the way Kevin Miller wants it, "A Slow Death" with the popularity of their Traxis Trucks and The Quarter Midgets, UM Sorry .25 Cars, Thats where there biggest revenue stream is coming from.

How many cars do you need for Midget Week? This year you had 30 plus cars for the first three races of IMW and mid to upper 20 plus for the last two. How many sprint cars did you have each night? Sounds enough for me. More cars doesn't mean better racing.

You will gain next to nothing if POWERi shuts down that week. How many of the car owners in POWERi can afford taking off extra days of work to support IMW? Throw in motel,fuel,food and extra fees,the costs adds up real quick.

The last POWRi race that I attended last year was at US 36 which was the last race of Midget Money week. Only 22 cars. Several cars there that normally do not run with POWRi. My numbers may be off, but I counted 7 cars that are normal USAC cars.

WINNER: Kyle Larson

The USAC race last spring at Dodge City drew 35 cars for a two day show with many POWRi drivers in attendance. The Valley race last spring had 31 cars but several of them were local to the KC area. The Lucas Oil race only had 25 cars.

Regardless of which series you support or which series you think is the future of the sport having them go head to head in the Kansas/Missouri market is a bad idea.
