Coons continues 'Prairie hot streak

Sun Prairie,Wis., June 1---Jerry Coons Jr. increased his series points lead, by capturing the 30-lap Badger Midget Series feature, Sunday Night at Angell Park Speedway. The feature victory was his third straight at the track.
Scott Hatton jumped into the lead at the start. Coons, the events fastest qualifier moved from tenth starting position into second place during the first five laps. Hatton's engine began to misfire on the sixth lap, one lap later crossing the start-finish line Hatton retired as the events leader. Coons quickly moved away from the field and began lapping cars on the Lap 13.
Coons saw his straightaway lead over Mike Hess and Dave Darland erased on lap 19 when a car stalled on the track. Coons again pulled away from the field, when another yellow appeared four laps later. On the restart Hess drew event with Coons taking the lead entering Turn 3. Coons drove under Hess exiting Turn 4 and regained the lead.
Coons driving the Ralph Wilke owned Spike-Mopar#5 finished 2.37 seconds ahead of Hess. Former Series champion Davey Ray, Darland, and A.J.Fike completed the top five finishers. Coons holds a 51 point lead over Hess heading into the June 8 event at Angell Park Speedway.
