Congrats Max! Thought KTJ was gonna check out, but Max drove his butt off and got by him in traffic. Track was in great shape yet again. Bloomington has found a real gem in Henry. That kid keeps nailing track prep. Great show. 3 divisions of open wheel cars!! Thanks Bloomington speedway!!

Our Global Speedway Tours group from Australia were sitting right behind the kid whose night became even better when Max came up into the crowd and gave him the winner's trophy.
It was the most spontaneous reaction I've seen for years. The kid's mouth didn't close for three minutes as he just kept gazing at the trophy. And I guess wondering what in the hell just happened. Even now on Saturday morning I bet he still can't believe it. Fabulous stuff .... |

Pretty darn good night of racing, especially the feature. Proves that you don't need forty cars to have a good show. Now on to Putnamville for the 29th annual Putnamville clash tonight! Bet they'll have more than twenty cars there!

"Back in the day" Tom Bipes (who later became a decent sprint car driver) won a model car contest at the 'burg. Dick Gaines posed with Tom for a photo and after the photo Gaines gave Tom his feature winners trophy. Something I am sure Tom never forgot.
The 'burg also had a "drivers autograph night". At intermission or down time, the drivers would come up in the grandstand area and sign autographs. Most autograph seekers were children. These are the types of activities that develop race fans, and in Tom's case drivers. I believe we need to see more of this activity to help build a fan base. Just sayin.... |
