Bob Lockard Memorial and Hall of Fame weekend for Saturday Night.
By: Bob Guess
(MORRIS, IL –SEPTEMBER 5TH) The twelfth (12th) annual Grundy County Speedway Hall of Fame Induction ceremony will be this Saturday September 5th. Fans can come as early as 12:00 noon to view all the photographs and race cars on display until 6PM. The Induction Ceremony starts at 3PM and will include nine (9) new inductees from the midget and stock car ranks. Visitation of the photo displays can be seen on Friday and Sunday, as well, starting at 1PM.
The D’Arcy GMC Short Track Auto Racing Series (STARS) will be having the Annual Bob Lockard Memorial as the highlighted event of the evening honoring the late Bob Lockard, who was such an inventive car owner in the midget ranks. Five divisions of open wheel race cars will be on hand to battle for the honor of having their names on the feature plaques.
Speaking of battles, with just two (2) shows left on the STARS calendar, all five divisions are having point battles that can go down to the last night of the season scheduled for September 26th at Grundy County Speedway and the Alex Pruett Memorial.
The STARS National Midget point battle is the closest that it has ever been in the five years. Brad Geenup, with four feature wins, is ahead of Tyler Baran by a scant fifty-one (51) points with a possible 145 points available each night. Baran is looking for his first feature win of the season. Third place Ryan Probst is 130 points behind Greenup and not out of the hunt yet.
Amanda Bohn, in the CSR Minicups division, leads Jamie Domski by 18 points with both drivers having won two features this year. In the closest point’s battle of all the divisions, Jordan Caskey is a scant 11 points ahead of second place Nathan Bertino in the Midwest Legacy Series. Patrick Bruns has a comfortable 92 point lead over teammate Max Pozsgai in the Illini Racing Series. Darren Ihrke can clinch his first title in the Classic Modified Division with his 195 point lead over Scott Irhke who is the car owner for Darren.
The front gates open at 4:30PM with the first race scheduled to start at 6:30PM.
