Curious as to what the format is for the chili bowl? Does a entered driver race each qualifying night? Or if you race on tues night and are fortunate to qualify do you sit until saturday? If you dont qualify on tues night, do you have another shot on wednesday night and so forth? As popular as this race is....not much info can be found on it.

Thanks for your info!

Each driver gets to run their qualifying night and Saturday night only. One bad qualifying night can absolutely BURY a driver for Saturday's events. I believe each qualifying night goes as follows:

8-10 heats
top half of points drivers from heats go to 4 A main Qualifiers
Balance goes to two C-mains
Those that dont qualify for the feature through the A main qualifers are distributed by points to two B-mains (some into the front of the C depending on car counts).
Then A main each night with top 3 locked into Saturday's main event.

Saturday's main lineups are determined by points gained on your qualifying night.

I do know that the previous years winner gets a provisional if he doesn't make it through to the A-main. Not sure about jumping into another car if you don't make it on your qualifier night but I don't think you can switch cars.

Once a car, and or a driver has drawn a pill for a given night, that is their night. If the car breaks then that car and that driver are not eligible to compete on another prelim night. If the driver doesn't finish well enough, the owner cannot re-enter the car on a new night with a new driver. The car and driver and done for the week.

So in order to race in any event on saturday, driver has to transfer on designated qualifying night? Additionally, if you are scheduled to qualify on friday night.....car basically sits idle from practice monday night until qualifying races on friday?

Thanks

No sir, if you crash it during monday hotlaps then you can move to any night to give yourself time to fix it, but crashing on your prelim night hotlaps means you've gotta scrap it together and try and race that night or be buried on saturday. It's a pretty unforgiving format if anything bad at all happens at any time during the week!!! But then again, they sell cold beer in the pits all week to ease the pain.

Everyone who's able will run Saturday. It might be one of the K features, but they still get to run. Part of Saturday's fun is watching someone transfer through the "alphabet." It's rare for anyone to transfer more than 3 times, but it does happen. Obviously, each transfer is more difficult than the last.

Depending on your finish on your qualifying night, you will be placed (depending on number of cars entered) anywhere from a K-Main to the A-Main on Saturday. The top 3 in each qualifying night's A-Main are locked into Saturday's A-Main. On Saturday they will run dual mains usually from around the letter K up thru letter B (that is 2 K's, 2 J's, 2 I's, 2 H's, etc.). The top X number of cars transfer from each Main to the back of the next corresponding Main.
